Summer downpour. Posted by Brian Gaze

UK weather discussion

Outbreaks of rain will push northeastwards today across southern and central regions of the UK. The rain will turn heavy at times, possibly leading to surface flooding in places. Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland have a mix of sunny spells and showers.

Cool in the wet areas. Temperatures range from 14°C to 21°C, with the highest values possibly in southern Scotland. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight, the heaviest rain becomes focused on central and and north eastern England. To the south and west the rain turns patchier. Showers in Scotland and Northern Ireland fade away to leave mostly dry conditions.

Tomorrow, the persistent outbreaks of rain gradually clear eastwards. Bright intervals develop in places, but there is likely to be a lot of cloud, and heavy showers could develop in eastern Britain. The highest temperatures are expected to be in south western Britain where 21°C may be reached.

Warmer in the south

A ridge of high pressure is likely to bring drier and warmer weather on Wednesday. How things develop in the following days is uncertain. In the northern half of the UK further showers or longer spells of rain continue to be a risk. However, a number of computer models are predicting a good deal of dry and warm or even very warm weather in southern and central regions for a time.
