In the north it turns wet and windy today, while the south remains dry. The next few days are looking unsettled as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto inject some additional vim into the Atlantic flow. Despite that, amounts of rain in the south east remain small, but that could change by Saturday. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and contribute to its ongoing development, explore the payment options, see below)

UK weather discussion

Outbreaks of rain steadily push eastwards across the northern half of the UK today. In the north west they will be heavy and persistent, but in north eastern Britain and Northern Ireland they remain patchier. Much of southern and central Britain stays dry with some spells of sunshine. Winds strengthen, with gales in the far north west later on.

Temperatures range from 13°C in the far north west to 22°C in the south east. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Mixed weather for the bank holiday weekend

The changeable weather continues for the next few days. There will be periods of wet and windy weather, with the worst conditions in the north and west. However, on Saturday, there could be a period of heavy rain in the south east and East Anglia, but there is still uncertainty. Another band of rain may push eastwards across central and northern areas on Sunday.
