The weekend will finish with mostly dry conditions across the UK and temperatures remain rather low. In the next few days a major change takes place as winds turn southerly, leading to warmer conditions. By Wednesday 21°C could be reached. However, the risk of heavy rain will also be increasing, particularly in the north and west. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and access premium features, see below)

14 day video weather forecast

Rain mostly in the north

A ridge of high pressure will be building in from the west. Therefore, all regions have a dry start and clear periods overnight have allowed frost to develop in places, particularly in the northern half of Britain.

Through the day cloud will be building but in most of the UK it remains dry. The exceptions are likely to be north western Britain and Northern Ireland where the risk of light rain increases this afternoon.

After the cold start temperatures will struggle. Values this afternoon range from 6°C in northern Scotland to 12°C in the south west. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight showery spells of rain become more widespread in the west of the UK, with heavier outbreaks extending over southern Wales and south western England. In other areas it stays dry and in parts of the north east where skies remain clear there will be a frost.

Tomorrow the rain in the south pushes eastwards and eases. In the afternoon it should be dry across virtually the whole of the UK, but there is a risk of rain in the far north west. Chilly in the north, but in the south temperatures will be starting to climb.

Warm but changeable next week

During the next few days a big change in the weather takes place. A southerly flow becomes established and it pulls much warmer air northwards from southern Europe. However, heavy showers or longer spells of rain are likely, particularly in the north and west. There is a chance of the wet conditions extending eastwards. If they do temperatures will be pegged back, but if it remains dry and bright values may reach or even exceed 21C in eastern England by Wednesday. The Central England Temperature tracker shows that this month has been warmer than the 30 year average so far and the anomaly is likely to increase further.

Later in the week it is expected to turn cooler as frontal systems move in from the Atlantic and push eastwards across all areas. Temperatures then drop as a westerly flow develops.
