Storm Ashley brings severe weather to much of the north and west today. In north western coastal counties winds are likely to gust around 80mph and there will be heavy rain as well. The first half of the coming week brings a change as high pressure builds from the south. It leads to a quieter and more settled spell. A band of rain pushes eastwards this morning and brighter conditions return to much of the UK. However, it remains wet in East Anglia and the south eastern corner into the afternoon. Showers develop in the north and in the north west longer spells of rain return as the core of Storm Ashley approaches. However, winds will be the main feature of the weather with gales or severe gales in the north. In north western coastal counties gusts of around 80mph are expected.

Tonight winds slowly ease, with gales becoming restricted to the far north of Scotland by the morning. Showers continue in parts of the north and west, also there is a risk of wet conditions developing in south eastern England.
Tomorrow any rain in the south east should quickly clear to leave sunny spells. However, there will be showers with the heaviest and most frequent ones in the north and west.

During Tuesday and Wednesday high pressure builds from the south and the risk of rain increasingly becomes restricted to the north west of the UK. With winds coming from the south or southwest it will be mild. Unsettled weather is forecast to return through the second half of the week as pressure falls and disturbances begin to move in from the Atlantic.
