Outbreaks of rain pushing in from the west

Fair weather in late October. Posted by Brian Gaze

Outbreaks of rain push in from the west today, but in central and eastern areas of England, and eastern Scotland it remains dry. The mixed theme continues in the short term, but high pressure will be building and by the middle of the coming week it is forecast to be dominant. Therefore, a good deal of dry weather can be expected and temperatures will be above the norm, at least for a time. (If you would like to browse the website without adverts and access premium features, see below)

Split in the weather across the UK

A split in the weather develops today. Central and eastern areas of England, as well as eastern Scotland remain dry with bright spells. In the north west there will be some patchy rain from the word go but much of the north begins dry. However, outbreaks of rain spread into the north west this morning and then steadily push eastward, extending into Wales by the evening. That said, the heaviest rain will be in Northern Ireland and the western half of northern Britain.

Temperatures range from 8°C in Scotland to 15°C in the south. Check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight wet conditions push southeastwards, but in central and eastern counties the rain will generally be patchier. By the morning more showery conditions will have returned to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow showery outbreaks of rain in southern and central areas steadily ease and clear eastwards. The north has a mostly dry day, but there is likely to be a lot of cloud in all areas.

High pressure building

Through the next few days high pressure builds northwards across the UK. Therefore, the risk of rain increasingly becomes restricted to the north west. Temperatures will depend on cloud cover, but computer models are signalling the likelihood of it being very mild or even quite warm for a while. However, after Halloween temperatures are likely to dip and the risk of frost increases. Fog could also be a problem.
