It's time to dig out the woolies as an early taste of winter beckons. Today it remains dry, calm and relatively mild in most of the UK. However, a band of rain pushes into northern Scotland later and that marks the boundary between the current mild air mass and the very cold Arctic one which will replace it. This weekend the colder conditions gradually push southwards and next week the risk of snow is expected to increase. UK Met UKV, Saturday 16th November [Tap animation to toggle cities]
During Sunday outbreaks of rain push southeastwards across Northern Ireland, central England and Wales. In much of the south it could stay dry until the evening. Areas further north have sunny spells and wintry showers. In Scotland snow falls to low levels.
Early next week the wintry theme continues. Snow is most likley in the north, but it's not out of the question that parts of the south could see some.
