The coming week will bring wintry weather to the UK, and in places there will be snow. However, details remain uncertain about the extent of the risk. Frosts will become widespread and severe, particularly in areas where there is snow cover. Locally in northern England and the Scottish glens, temperatures could dip below -10°C later in the week. Tonight outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow push eastwards across the southern half of the UK. Snow is most likely in central and northern England, along with northern Wales. However, there is uncertainty about exactly where the boundary between rain and snow will be and how far north the precipitation will extend. Northern Ireland is expected to be mostly dry. In Scotland snow showers continue in the northern half and clear periods lead to a sharp frost.
Tomorrow morning the rain, sleet and snow in the southern half of Britain pulls away eastwards, but it may stay wet in the far south east and East Anglia until mid afternoon. In the northern half of the UK there will be wintry showers and in Scotland significant accumulations of snow are likely in places. Very cold.

The next couple of days will be cold or very cold across the country, with frost widespread and severe in places. While much of the country remains dry and sunny, sleet and snow showers are also possible. The heaviest of them are expected to be in northern Scotland, but some could push into eastern coastal counties, Northern Ireland, northwest Britain. On Thursday there a more organised band of rain, sleet and snow showers may push southwards. Also, there is a risk of an area of rain, sleet and snow pushing eastwards across southern Britain.
