The cold spell continues today but in much of the UK it will be dry and bright. Tonight a widespread and shrp frost quickly sets in. It's a similar picture tomorrow, but there is a risk of rain, sleet and snow in the far south and south west. By the weekend a big change develops as a deep area of low pressure brings back milder and potentially stormy conditions. Tonight wintry showers continue in coastal counties and there will be further snow in northern and western Scotland. However, the main point of note for most will be the sharp frost. Temperatures will dip below freezing point across virtually the whole of the UK, with the possible exception of the south west. In the Welsh valley and northern England values as low as -10°C could be recorded locally.
Tomorrow it remains cold. Much of the UK has a dry and bright day, but sleet and snow showers persist in western and the northern half of Scotland. Also, there is a risk of patchy outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow pushing eastwards across the south west and the far south of England. A widespread frost returns in the evening.

Friday will be another very cold day, with sleet and snow showers in the same areas as recently. However, a change begins to take place as a deep area of low pressure approaches from the Atlantic. Overnight and through Saturday winds strengthen and a band of heavy rain pushes northeastwards. It is likely to be preceded by a period of snow in northern and north eastern parts of Britain. Significant accumulations are possible, particularly over high ground before the snow turns back to rain. Gales or severe gales are possible in much of the country, but the strongest winds are likely to be in the north and in western coastal counties.
Next week starts on an unsettled note. However, low pressure quickly pulls away eastwards and high pressure builds in from the west. Temperatures dip again.
