     Snow around York this morning, although it's wet heavy stuff and not really sticking at all.

    Very light snow from around 06:30 has pepped up considerably in the past 1/4 hour or so.  Now moderate but only really settling on cars.

    Light dusting of wet snow/hail this morning. Only on grass and car though. There was heavy hail overnight and it was snowing lightly when I got up this morning.

    On the train south and so far seen light wet snow in Edinburgh, Berwick, Newcastle and Durham, its showery off the North Sea and there's a dusting on high ground and here at Darlington

    So a good start to the cold spell with light wet snow being reported from Edinburgh right down through Leeds and into the SE.....but rain 700 ft up in Leicestershire?

    some ice-pellets/hailstones [tiny] earlier now dry and clear!

    Looks like the east will see sleet/snow on and off throughout the day with perhaps up to 2" [5cm] over higher ground 150m so I heard. Also some snow throughout the coming week with more significant snow by the end of the week according to Carol Kirkwood!n However this restricted to eastern areas only.

     Some surprisingly intense (but brief) showers since dawn, it's not really settling here but hills are white, +1.1C
