    N American Reports

This thread does not seem to have been created yet, so, here goes.  My report from yesterday will do for starters I guess Smile [:)]

Zipped right through spring last night and back to winter - light flurries today, nothing settling.  Cold, windy and cloudy and 2C, after 22C warm and sunny yesterday.  That's Calgary then!

Staying cool through the week, warming up a little by week-end.

Thanks oSmile [o:)] - always interesting to read your reports from Calgary.

Presumably most of Canada too experienced a milder than normal winter oQuestion [o[??]]

    Re: N American Reports

Well, this is very posh!Cool [H]

Anyway, as I enter my very final month in the USA, thees not really a lot to say!

A sunny day today after some rain last night. At 2pm it is 69F/21C. A chance for showers and thunderstoms tonight and tomorrow but not expecting anything severe..though some severe storms may just sneak in to western Ohio. Any storms that push east tonight and tomorrow are expected to be weakening ones though.

Rest of the week looks sunny and warm with a 30% chance for storms Wednesday night into Thursday. Warmest day looks like Wednesday with a high of 77F/25C. So warm sunshine and hit and miss storms seems to be the story for this week.

Oh yes, especially the west - we were up 5-6C on average if I remember rightly.  We didn't even hit -30C over the winter! oDisapprove [o[VV]]

    Re: N American Reports

Here we go where no-one has gone before! The start of the new TWO Weather forum. Here's hoping it's as good as its predecessor.

We had a lovely weekend here sitting under the dominant NE High that has kept all the trouble in the South of the US. Temps reached 18/64F here, but i did here local reports of upto 21/70F in some sheltered spots. Today, it has continued dry, sunny and pleasant, although there is a cooler breeze from the East which caused temps to reach only 15/59F today.

Some really nasty weather is forecast for later this evening and overnight in the Mississippi valley and into the Ohio valley. Possible Tornadic development can't be ruled out, currently there is a Tornado Watch in these areas. A benifit of the blocking high has been that the deep south has seen quite abit of rain over the last week. So much rain fell that once again New Orleans, LA was flooded, although thankfully only briefly this time.

The West Coast has seen some of the best weather of the year this past weekend, with temps topping 90F in one or two favoured locations. The weather here is expected to stay nice until at least Thursday, before the High slips away to allow more unstable conditions to develop.

    Take Care folks

What was the temperature today Peter? You may have been colder than me as we hit a warm 8c today. Large Scandi High keeping things sunny and warm for many days it would seem.

Wouldn't it be funny if you had your winter in summer?! Dull, murky and wet Stick out tongue [:P]oEvil [o[}::)]]oWink [o[;;)]]

    Re: N American Reports

Strong thunderstorms moved trough Indiana last night and into western Ohio this morning. But as predicted, they hit the more stable air over central Ohio and rapidally became just plain rain showers. So we had a few moderate to heavy rain showers this morning...the remanants of those storms...the tops still looked quite 'fluffy' as they approached so i wouldn't be surpirsed if there was still the odd flash and rumble in them somewhere.

They have cleared out now and its warming up and the sun is coming out. At 2pm it is 66F/19C but we should reach 70F once the clouds have fully cleared. They were indicating earlier that some strong storms might bubble up this afternoon but they've been removed from the forecast now as its just too stable up there.

Warm and sunny tomorrow, (77F/25C) before the next chance for showers and storms comes in Wednesday night into Thursday.

You know Peter thats a great idea once Gordon goes back home, unless someone else pops up over here!

I'll be staying in Ontario till October now, busier over here with work than i would be back home at this time, so staying i guess you could say, medium term in Canada.

I see Mike, your a Man Utd fan. Poor result last night against Middlesbourgh, i hope we haven't blown 2nd place! Slightly off topic i know, but also to do with the weather in a way, a real shame for Wayne Rooney on Saturday. If England have two players desperate to play in the World Cup it would be Rooney and Gerrard.

The experts are saying that due to harder playing surfaces and lighter boots, these metatarsal injuries are happening. Ironically, the reason why the pitches are harder is to stop flooding in the winter and a quagmire like Stamford Bridge was earlier in the season.

Out of interest Mike, what is your average Summer daytime temperature in Norway?

Temperature is currently 16/61F here, there might be a topper of 18/64F today, but its touch and go. Glorious outside though, with a light breeze.

I was watching those storms Gordon this morning and it was as you say like taking the air out of the tank with regards to the t-storms and potential large hail/tornado development. They hit Ohio and virtually died out. Still however the potential for storms to develop over OK, TX and KT later.

It's been cool and cloudy so far this week, and windy too today! Umbrella [um]  Nothing special by UK standards, but enough for a wind warning in our sheltered neck of the woods.  Rain showers on and off as well.

We should see a moderation in temperature and wind over the next few days and hope to see high teens by the end of the week.

Yes, we didn't go above 7C today so definitely colder than average.  Still, the temperatures will soon pick up oSmile [o:)]  Forget about winter in summer, we can have 4 seasons in one day - really really oWink [o[;;)]]

    Re: N American Reports

We did get some development this afternoon and this evening. A very convective looking sky. Some very sharp showers, absolute downpours they were...but strangely, no thunder or lightning!

Had an incredibly heavy band of rain move through about an hour ago...very very stormy skies..looked very much like the storm clouds you see out in the plains...they looked amazing and dumped so much rain in a short period of time. But again, no thunder or lightning.

Has cleared out now and is turning quite cool, murky and foggy. At 10pm it is 58F/14C.

Yes, a disappointing end to the season after that little glimmer of hope up until the Sunderland gameSad [:(]

Day temperatures in Norway during the summer vary considerably depending on where you are but here in Lesjaskog/Bjorli it is rather cool. The warmest month of the year is July with the official mean monthly temperature standing at 11.3c. The coldest absolute July temperature is -4c Cool [H] The highest temperature on record was set 2 years ago with 29c (previously 28c). Temperatures can often be around 5c by day during July if it is wet under a cold NW'ly flow.

But our altitude comes into play. It is much warmer in Oslo fopr example where they also enjoy some good summer thunderstorms. Sadly, we just don't get thunder around this way...

    Re: N American Reports

Clouds are slowly clearing today and it is warming up slowly. Dont think we'll make the 77F/25C that was forecast. At 2pm it is just 67F/19C...we should warm into the 70's by the end of the day though.

Only a 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. Rest of the forecast looking fairly dry.

And quite a cool down forecast for the weekend. Temperatures will be way below average. On Saturday, our high could only reach 59F/15C...and a low of 39F/4C Saturday night..maybe even lower. Systems will pass close to Ohio but are predicted to miss us. And we really dont have much instability up there right now..as yesterdays heavy showers showed. Is Spring turning out like winter? Starts off with an amazing weather and then just dissapears for the rest of the season?

Winter started off with all that snow in December...then there was nothing in January and February. We had lots of strong to severe thunderstorms in the first half of April..and had hardly anything since! Ohio really is a quiet place this year!

    Re: N American Reports

Dry, with whispy clouds here today. Warmer at 18/64F, tomorrow remaining dry now, the threat of unstable weather gone for now.

Worrying developments this evening though for our friends down in KY. A Tornado Warning has just been posted for Graves County in Western KY. Dopla radar indictes the likelyhood of a Tornado on the ground or in the stages of developing to the ground. The storms are only just getting going and the Warning expires at the moment at 1845 CT, this however i'd think will be extended to neighbouring counties in the area soon.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches are out for many states this evening, including AR, IL, KY, MO and TN.

May is traditionally, the most active Tornado month and the folks down there sure must be counting the hours too, this storm system scoots through introducing cooler air from the Rockies.

    Re: N American Reports

Light showers this morning ahead of a cold front which is due through this evening. Maybe some more light showers before the front comes through. Very very small chance that one shower might bubble up to a thunderstorm this afternoon..but fairly unlikely and will be east of Columbus if it does happen.

Not as warm as forecasted again today..at 2pm it is 68f/20C..was supposed to be 75F today. High pressure through the weekend keeping it dry until  midweek next week. Much cooler weather too. Highs will be around 65F/18C and lows around 45F/7C. First part of May is turning out fairly non-eventful here.

Not too much to say really.  After a light overnight frost, it's been fairly pleasant today with temperatures up to 16C.  Tomorrow we should break into the 20's again before cooling off slowly over the weekend.  Remaining dry and sunny thoughout Cool [H].

    Re: N American Reports

Currently 7/45F here and what a pleasant morning once again. Forecast to reach 17/63F later but then there's a risk of an isolated Shower or T-Storm tonight as more unstable air tries to make its way across here from Saskatchewan, where there is even some Sleet looking at the radar currently, most likely on higher ground though. Temps are scheduled to cool off to 14/57F by Sunday. May is not a scorcher so far.

Interesting talking to my folks back in Ayrshire, Scotland last evening. They had 22/72F yesterday and for them quite violent Thunderstorms which were sparked as they run into the warm air. So for once Gordon and Peter, us over here were cooler than Western Scotland! Now, that don't happen every day.
