Marigold:The latest fly by of the MESSENGER spacecraft revealed a further 30% of the surface of Mercury. The images are still coming in and being analysed, this image was released yesterday. Looking at that enlarged picture gives me an amazing sense of awe and wonderment.    Yup, impressive stuff. Some really young (relatively I guess) craters there.

It looks somewhat like the moon, in size as well as crater coverage.

Except that it has very long "days" (about 6 Earth months) and when it's night time it gets down to a nippy -160C or so. Then when it gets light it gets rather mild, say about 400C...
