The frost free horror goes on and on despite clear skies this morning. It's just unreal. 13 days without any frost now despite only two days in that period reaching as high as 7C

May 2018 was the warmest on record yet it still got down to -1.5C. Now the nights are at their longest and with maxes of 5C  it can't even drop below 1C under clear skies  Just a complete joke which defies any sort of logical or rational explanation.

December 2015 was definitely no where near as bad as this. It was utterly dire but there was much more variety both in temperature and weather conditions- it was nowhere near as pitifully boring as this. We'd had two falls of snow by now: 5cm on 21st/22nd Nov and 1cm on 30th Nov/1st Dec whereas there hasn't been a flake so far this year and only two years in the past 70 have had nothing by the end of December - 1953 and 2006.

To be struggling to get much higher than average during the day but failing to get frost is just disgusting and appalling winter weather. I can't imagine anywhere even at 47 degrees North struggling to get frost in the core winter period never mind 57 degrees North.

No wonder high street sales are poor - who what's to go out on this crappy weather! Not one frigging night of frost or crisp cold morning to wake up to for a change! Relentless overcast skies with clound rain or light rain and drizzle! SICK!

We had one morning of 2c and one evening when it dipped to +1c  on 8th or 9th , but only for it to rise to 9c in morning with heavy rain!! Worse December since 2015!!

The only comfort I get is knowing that we have a SSW and it really cannot get worse that this. Seriously!!

There may not have been an air frost but it has been a beautiful chilly winter’s day with the ground, cars etc in the shade all still frozen solid.

I think things are really desperate down here now. What's strange was that we had x2 blizzards in March daytime maxes of -3c on 1st March and here we are at the end of December and struggle to even get temperature to reach freezing!

Enjoy the crisp and cold weather up there tonight and tomorrow - it doesn't look like it will last.

Hope we start seeing some cold, snowy weather in January. Also once this SSW has been picked up by the GFS models - we should start seeing some more colder/ blocked or bitterly cold FI charts! Don't know how patient we can be to see something wintry - Soon we would have lost a months worth of winter with no frost let alone snow or sleet etc. Then 8 weeks to go before spring! I really don't want blizzards heavy drifting snow in March again! It's not fun first one was great fun 2nd one was just too much snow...but again we need this snow to occur during winter months and we have already lost one month of winter! So disappointing really! Very frustrating too.

Why is it that we just cannot get through a Christmas Day these days without double figures temperatures being recorded either here in the Scottish Borders, or back home in Edinburgh regards of what circumstances have led to that happening?

Today started off with an official air frost and at Edinburgh Airport, it was even down to -5°C. The rest of today hasn't been all that mild either.  Yet even as I write, the temperature just keeps on going up and now at Edinburgh Airport, the temperature has shot all the way up to 10°C which is ridiculously mild for this time of year.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

A crappy day weather wise - drizzle and light rain and fog etc! - Temperature of +11c, despite air pressure of 1030mb.

This has been the 4th year in the row where by the temperature has reached double digits on Xmas Day.

2014 +10
2015 +13
2016 +15
2017 +14.5
2018 +11

Where do we go from here?

This will go down as the worse December in terms of cold and /or snow. Can't believe that min temp has not reached 1c yet. Merely a frost either and rain now 25/25 days! Sick!! YUCK!

At least there was frost and ice on 26/27th October at -3.5c! I guess we will have to wait Spring to see snow or anything cold the way we are going!

We haven't even had a colder snap let alone a colder spell? what the heck? this is some real messed up sh!t going on here with our weather!

Wakes up on Boxing day to another borefest - Overcast, grey and drizzle and mild at 10.0c - temp dropped 0.4c over night- despite pressure of 1037mb's - at least December 2017 had sleet and wet snow showers in Devon on boxing day- despite 14 or 15c Xmas day yesterday, Boxing day 2017 was cold with showers turning wintry, then patchy frost on even of boxing day 2017 - There was a lot of cold zonality back then if I remember!!

That winter may be derided but compared to the garbage of the past six years it was brilliant. December 2006 actually recorded a greater frost duration than any winter month since 2011 with the sole exception of December 2017 which only just beat it. That's how pathetic things have got.

So far this year we've had two frosty mornings one of which was back in October. This week hasn't been remotely seasonable. Yesterday was springlike, despite a min of -3.6C, with zero sign of frost and temperature up to +3C by sunrise. Reached 7C during the afternoon so very much like a high pressure in March. Though that did make it one of the few days in the past four month to even register a flicker of interest.

Today it's October with mild cloudy muck. Temperature 11.9C at the moment. A decent frosty/snowy festive period is long overdue but this one looks like turning out to be one of the worst ever. Dire, uninspiring tripe and I am sick to death of this going on year in year out.

Ebenezeer Scrooge really has been controlling the festive weather this decade. Bah Humbug!

I was sitting outside the front door yesterday with clear blue above and not a breath of wind. It felt warm and with some hardy plants coming into flower it was more like April but with longer shadows.
This might be fine for some but in late December !!!!

I remain less and less convinced that we’ll see any meaningful deep cold spell through the effects of the current SSW this winter. Heights to our South and into Central Europe remain limpet like for the foreseeable and I still think any HLB will be fleeting for our neck of the woods.

Ridicilously windy today.
Gusts to 52mph blowing bins and rubbish down the street.
NW winds are always worse than expected here. Could take it if it was 1c with wintry showers but these NW winds are bringing a temp of 10.1c.
