Well, a pretty good performance from the hi-res models I would say, with the location and the value pretty much spot on.

I think it was actually several weeks later, wasn't it? End of August, at least.

In the last hour, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has dropped back below 30°C, so my earlier reported value of 30.9°C looks like being today's maximum for that particular station.

Other notable values for here in Edinburgh according to the Met Office Observations site are 30.6°C at Swanston Weather station and 30.6°C at Colinton. As for Scotland as a whole, the highest temperature which I have found at any of the major weather stations is 33.3°C in Bathgate in West Lothian.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The only thing we need to be cautious about is that we're currently only seeing the real-time network. There are climate sites which only report max's at 1800 GMT or a climate report at 2100 GMT. So there might be a surprise yet.....

You can’t rule out a late runner but it’s getting late Stanstead (actually Takley) to Writtle in our area

I remember Gravesend was 38.1 at the end of the day in 2003 and Faversham pipped it the next day. Could happen again.

Rather incredibly, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has just shot up to 30.9°C as at 3pm this afternoon which has now set a new all time record for the highest temperature which I have ever recorded at any of my three local stations since I first joined TWO back in the summer of 2016.

That might even also be a new all time record for that particular station and has come as a result of an increase in the temperature by a massive 4.8°C in just the last hour.

Who knows where this might end up going next.

I am still curious as to whether Bedford might have beaten it if the weather station hadn't broken. It was dead level with Cambridge before it stopped reporting. Monk's Wood is also out of order and has been for a couple of days now. Should have sent someone out to fix it on a day like today!

The delay would have been due to the numerous checks to make sure the site complied in every way with the guidelines, as a new record demands absolute certainty. It's why I grinned a bit when people whinged it was a poor site... no, it's not, otherwise it wouldn't have passed those tests, nor would it be kept on by the Met Office!

Re Bedford I wonder if it was just a transmission problem, in which case the temperature data might still be retrievable if anyone from the Met Office cares to look. Would be pretty bad if a potential record goes begging due to equipment failure.

All I know is that the SYNOPS were missing temperature data from 2pm onwards: https://www.ogimet.com/display_synops2.php?lang=en&tipo=ALL&ord=REV&nil=SI&fmt=html&anof=2019&mesf=07&dayf=25&horaf=15&minf=45&ano=2019&mes=07&day=24&hora=15&min=45&lugar=03560

It was still sending data but the temperature part was missing. Wind data is there.

At least 34.3c at Ryhill and 34.8c at Linton on ooze (hourly readings) which are rural.   So 35c has to be plausible, Leeds WC would normally outperform other local official stations.
