Would it be though? Or perhaps just evidence of the ever increasing urbanisation of the UK, and over on the nearby european mainland due to the out if control population growth's.

I guess the only hope left is the 18:00 reports from the MetOffice. How many stations report at the end of the day that were in the prime locations?

Several are out of action, though. As well as Bedford, there is Monks Wood nearby, and Weybourne in Norfolk, both of which have been off line for days.
I've been out for the afternoon and just got back to check the records and I see that the max. temp. here in Tonbridge today was 37.4*C (99.4*F) at 3.00pm thanks to a small surge when it had climbed 2degC in 45 minutes. Now dropped to 35.9*C.

Headcorn at 37C late in the day is interesting. North Kent (ie Faversham) was forecast to be significantly hotter than the Weald (ie Headcorn) on the models.

Temps back to 32.5C here after it dropped to 30C earlier on.
I think Cambridge Airport tends to have higher maxes in these events than both Cambridge NIAB and Cambridge Botanic Garden. There's a chance it might beat 38.1, but a small one.

I can confirm Sheffield broke it's all-time record today, with 35.1°C
Currently 33°C with broken cloud.
I notice there was also a freakish late rise at Herstmonceux from 30.8C at 4pm to 34.2 at 5pm, the hottest of the day by some margin.
Now Back to 33C heat at nearly 6pm
I would actually be quite surprised if we didn’t break the record once the 18.00 data is in that will include more analogue maxima readings.

perhaps something to do with what Q mentioned earlier about the thunderstorms
One about to pass here but no rain yet, feels hotter than it did minutes ago
What a joke. They need to sort these things out
Do the official records have to be on hourly reports or can they be instantaneous values?
NIAB didn't get very close on the hours today according to this

I thought it was too hot today even for birds?
So you don't believe in Global Warming then it's all down to uhi effect, come on!
Booming Thunder and Lightening approaching Stratford. Sorry wrong threadp
At what time interval do the official stations actually report then?
Is there any way to access this data?
How do we know the highest value today was at NIAB?
