I'm expecting to contract Covid-19 at some point over the next three or four weeks. I'm asthmatic and therefore supposedly vulnerable.

However, I expect that I will suffer a couple of days of fever and shortness of breath but make a quick recovery.

Yo yo yo. 148-3 to the 3 to the 6 to the 9, representing the ABQ, what up, biatch?

Sorry if it puts  a"crimp" on your social life.

Went shopping in the "local shops for local people" round here this morning.  No masks, no daftness  at all going on.  No shortages of bog rolls (or anything else).   The butcher did make the comment that a "60 something"  came into his shop yesterday with a mask on - implied he thought he was a pillock !

This is wrong as the WHO has repeatedly said. Almost all steps taken by China are replicable in western countries.

Probably makes no bloody difference, but at least  it would be psychologically uplifting (unlike today !  )

Agreed. This should be rated as the top comment of the day.

Everything that MM, Q and I have stated has come to pass. The irony is, we are still only at the tip of the iceberg.

The discussion in here has become more serious as events have unfolded, particularly from those people who were saying certain individuals were scare mongering. Plenty of those people would have scoffed at us if we had even suggested that 220m school children would be away from school only a few weeks ago

Will be interesting to see what happens to global travel in the next few weeks and months.

From the BBC Website:

"The number of recorded cases of coronavirus in the Netherlands has more than doubled from 38 to 82, Reuters news agency reports.

The rise in cases comes as the country tries to put in place a plan for some 900 students due to return from skiing holidays in northern Italy.

The group, members of a fraternity in the northern Dutch city of Groningen, travelled to Sestriere in the Italian Alps before the Dutch government changed its travel advice to say all trip to the region should be cancelled unless necessary.

However, Hanneke Mensink, the local health authorities' spokeswoman, told Reuters they had been warned before they left at the weekend.

"We told them our worries, but they decided to go anyway. That is their responsibility.""

- of course, these Dutch students behaved perfectly rationally in deciding to go to Italy come what may, even if they all end up quarantined as a result with half of them infected and a quarter dead. (Just making that comment for Gandalf's benefit).

There will be plenty of new cases in the coming weeks. The very best we can do is try to slow the spread of the virus down a little. It will be a balance between sensible precautions and avoiding socially and economically extreme decisions.

We won't be able to stop the virus but that is not a reason to (a) do nothing or (b) overreact.

Can we do a sweepstake - which TWO member will get it first?

I say Q

Problem is, most of us will not be tested so we would never know

Yes. We went on one last May (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSC_Bellissima) and it was fantastic, one of the best holidays I've ever had. Loads of families and the average age was probably younger than us. It was pricey enough to put off the scruffs looking for a week-long p*ss-up party, but not exorbitant; we had a duplex cabin with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, two TV's, two fridges, a sitting area with table, and a huge balcony with a hot tub. The drinks package we had was brilliant and I lived a week in a state varying from jauntily merry to well oiled. Amazing entertainment (Circe du Soleil have a show on there), and I even avoided losing much in the casino. Overall for less money than we spent on our Florida holiday.

Maunder's got a typically jaundiced view of cruises.

What I am really asking is, are there Cruises that can turn into a bonk fest? I would sign up to that
