Just locked the school up and set alarms, primary teachers are none the wiser at this point head is still being briefed every morning but not cascade down the chain I guess that’s her orders at this stage.

What?

It's a graph that's been doing the rounds, where the data it is based on is available somewhere. But surely it's pretty uncontroversial - it just presents in a clear visual format something that is well-known, utterly logical, and stands to reason.

In science, this kind of peer criticism is generally regarded as a good thing, BTW.

Apparently it's an old photo from Texas, apologies to Glaswegians.

The Russian are doing a lot better than you think.

Much better than the West thus far.

As for North Korea, who knows.

Breaking: Italy will suspend all professional sports activities and public mass gatherings until April 3rd

It took SK 12 days to get on top of their epidemic and start to see a reduction in the number of new cases. 18 days in for Italy and there is no reduction in number of new cases.

Are the Koreans lucky? More organised? The steps they took were not overly drastic but they have done a lot of testing. It appears to me that they just reacted very fast which enabled them to get on top if it.

The Greek Orthodox Church decrees that the coronavirus cannot be transmitted via the Eucharist/communion and encourages the faithful to keep receiving it as it symbolises the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

If they had a sense of humour, they'd have said: join us in communion and do not be afraid, three days later you shall be resurrected.

Because that is literally all that graph is trying to show people. Are you really saying you want full peer review for the idea that more people getting infected in a shorter period of time leads to more pressure on the health system than the same number getting infected over a more drawn out period? I mean, come on!

The mass gathering thing is interesting. In the press conference today it was stated that a fan in a stadium of 40,000 has the same potential contact sphere as a fan going to the pub to watch a game (i.e. those in your immediate vicinity).

Not sure I buy into that. Greater distances travelled to get to games in person mostly on public transport, and away fans potentially bringing contact from more virulent areas of the country to less affected areas.

Make all sporting events free to view on terrestrial and play behind closed doors.

Israel have announced that anyone entering the country is required to self isolate for 14 days. Their airspace is going to be very empty.

Our economic model is dependent on debt fuelled consumer spending. The house of cards cannot be propped up if people don't go out and spend, no matter what tax cuts the govt brings in.

Patient 1 is finally out of intensive care in Italy.  Remember they never found patient zero. He was 38 and healthy by all accounts and spent 3 weeks in ICU. It just shows you how difficult this situation is if you have thousands of similar cases. Huge pressure in even the most sophisticated health care systems.
