They want the young and healthy to catch it. That is the only explanation I can think of. Let the young people mingle in pubs and catch the virus while more vulnerable sections of the population stay out of the way. I don’t agree with it but I think that’s what the govt are doing.

That would be catastrophic for my eldest as she's consistently outperformed her predicted grades.

Yet this year, she's been clashing with one of her English teachers, who has persistently marked her down and the mock result was a poor 6 (both English lang & lit she's been at 8 and she wants to to take Lit A-level)

Yes, it would be catastrophic for many many young people.

Interesting - that meeting I was in 2 weeks ago (where I got coughed on by the headteacher) turned out to be correct. All along they'd been working on this Friday being the last day and so it is.

The more worrying thing for the school will be how they handle the "key worker" / vulnerable children... it'll be interesting to see how they handle that staffing wise.

Anyway, day 1 of formal self isolation for me has ended. Still have the sore throat and I still feel a bit woozy, but I still have my sense of smell and taste! I still reckon it's just a cold, but we'll see!

Yes you’re right Doc.

It sounds as though they will use predicted grades instead?

The definitions of key workers and ‘vulnerable’ need to be published ASAP so you guys and the parents can prepare for next Monday. The exam issue is a whole new level of shithosery that will no doubt be the subject of some very heated debate.

If that link doesn't work then I think the irish times arfticle below is the same

Agreed! The trouble is, we have nothing on the school database (SIMS) that lists the occupation of the parents. It's going to be a time-consuming job sifting through everyone, that's for sure.

EDIT: TBH, it would have been far better if they'd just moved the Easter break to next week, as then at least there would have been time to prep for the inevitable influx of "I deliver washers on a zero-hours contract, am I a key worker?" type queries!
