Agreed and the opposition is failing to criticise the government for its half measures, poor communication messy strategy. Lots of chickens will come home to roost in the next few weeks and months.

Looks like having had it does not confer the kind of immunity some would hope - this extract from the BBC Website outlines the issues:

For vaccine, read immunity from having had it - like the common cold, you will still catch it. There is one positive, the common cold does not kill you and as we adapt as a host species to COVID-19, it may ultimately become nothing more tiresome than getting the occasional cold. We live with colds and influenza, because even though we catch them, we have built up some resistance to their effects. When the Conquistadors went to the Americas, they exposed the indigenous peoples to viruses they had never encountered previously and they more or less wiped them out - but that is history.

One thing that would be useful right now is a sense of civic nationalism or patriotism. People view it as a pathology these days, but in times like this it is a useful force to get people to pull together.

People are all very cynical about 'flag waving' and so on, but pride in one's country is something that does have it's benefits.

Phew! That should ease the foot shortages at least.

It's best if I don't express right now my sentiments about our country and esp its leadership.  

We all need to be nationalists now, just the same as if we were engaged in total war.

We are engaged in total war, but the enemy is invisible.

We don't need that on our WhatsApp group. Two people have already been round to my house today to collect things we don't need. Not a sniff of patriotism. It's called community spirit.

I feel a sense of love of landscape and of place and of community. But I have no sense of pride in this country's institutions, government or people. Pride in 'one's country' is the refuge of the terminally unconscious.

I would rather help people in Italy than the selfish English scum out in Wetherspoons every night. I wouldn't p1ss on them if they were on fire.

 No it certainly is not and will hit home the fact that the population wanted to pay less and less of their income on food and more on lifestyle they might realise what is important.

This is what's happening with pubs in Ireland.

Very few pubs are open anywhere. The very few that do open are being told that if they open, this fact will be noted in their annual licencing renewal applications next September.

Patriotism is an unconscious and unnatural learned belief system through which people who are not self aware are manipulated by others.

Seems to me that it is all the 'patriots' in Wetherspoons who are resistant to social distancing.

 Far too wet here for planting potatoes. Used to grow a few acres of maincrop and never sowed before early April at earliest. Used to sell at Farm gate till got done by Weights and measures . My sacks were overweight.

Sure but what I mean is that all of us behaviing like patriots and nationalists acting in a way that is for the good of our country is something we should all be doing. Like I say patriotism has been a very useful tool in the past to get through national crises.

You are way behind in poor Ireland, Lionel. You don't have our behaviour experts and our nudge units, which say that people cannot be told to stay away from social places, they have to be nudged. We are far ahead in this country, magnificient, exceptional!

I think I could help the country much more if I had a semi automatic.

I don't need to be patriotic or nationalistic to take care to ensure that I don't murder people. I want everybody to be safe - here, in France, in Burkina Faso... everywhere. The British state is nowhere in my thinking
