The deaths will fluctuate a lot Id say , depends on the age , how long someone has had the virus , the underlying issues , how long they can fight the disease  it will be a job to get a grip with it

I don't think it's significant at all given what HW has alluded to - it's so hard to glean any trends from our results given other wild fluctuations.

Add to that the 5-day lag of test results and I'm surprised anyone can decipher what's going to happen next.

Lockdowns seem to be having some effect now in places like Italy, Spain and Germany after that horrendous lag period.

China has shown strict lockdowns work. Once you get case numbers to fall, you can then start again with containment strategies which help to stem the spread.

Total lockdown needs to happen in the UK now for a period of time.

I went into my local Budgens this morning and found similar- it's attached to a filling station and the forecourt was deserted with fuel prices are heading south.  At least we won't have an idiotic  run on fuel (unless Social Media deems otherwise !)   No bog rolls (of course) not that I  was out to buy any, but it's an interesting metric. Fruit pretty low - no bananas  a few dodgy looking oranges left and  some apples floating in some kind of liquid !  Some bread - but only the nasty white sort !

However, tinned veg, tinned fish, mayo, milk yogurt all there and a freezer  full of excellent "Cook" ready meals that form the basis of a decent meal.

It's all pretty random and sporadic.  You may not be able to get what you usually have, but   you aren't going to starve.   There seems to be a bit of a difference between large town based supermarkets and smaller village shops.  The other grocery shop in the village  has everything - but they are strictly rationing the idiots who want  a trolley load of bog rolls (etc)

Yes I'm not seeing the point of him reiterating the same message again in the same tone as before. It's clear it's not getting through enough.

I guess they [the government] are desperately hoping that people will finally start to comply.

If enforcement is needed, can they police it? I think not, which is in my view why they're persisting with the "softly, softly" approach.

I suspect you'll only start to see changes in those holdouts in society (enforecment aside) once people start seeing friends and relatives die.

But the schools aren't closed , why on earth does he keep saying that  , the school at the top of the road has 300 children attending tomorrow

USA with 11,500 confirmed cases today.

Italy have reported 5,560 new cases and 651 new deaths.

Total now 59,138 cases and 5,476 death


15% decline in new cases and 18% decline in new deaths

My issue is this.

Retail outlets remain open.
People are still not listening.

We then have a press conference with no clear ideas and no clear messaging.
