Just wondering how the shops are in the UK. In the last couple of days, supermarkets local to me have started limiting the number of items that a shopper can buy. I'm a bit surprised that they are introducing restrictions now, as I would have thought that panic buying would have ended by now. I know that we are told that there will be no difficulties, but we have found it difficult to find flour in the supermarkets. Not sure why there would be a shortage of flour in particular as everything else seems to be plentiful. However I wonder whether this is indicative of wider problems in the supply chain.
I also wonder whether issues will arise in the autumn given the difficulties for farmers to bring in migrant workers, not just in the UK and Ireland but Europe wide.

This is a serious worry. As we know these symptoms get progressively worse over time of you do not shake this off quickly.

The PM must immediately step aside to ensure recovery. I am concerned this will now get far more serious.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital for tests - 10 days after confirming he had contracted coronavirus. Sky News understands Mr Johnson still has persistent symptoms and a high temperature - and was taken to hospital on the advice of his doctor.

 

The admission is said to be a precautionary rather than emergency measure. It is not known whether he will remain in hospital overnight.

 

 

The prime minister is still leading the government response to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is understood. Mr Johnson has been in self-isolation in 11 Downing Street since testing positive.

That's one thing I've noticed too. The first week to ten days of symptoms seems to be fairly mild, before they turn more severe. This proves that isolating for seven days from the beginning of symptoms appearing is nowhere near enough.

I'm wishing Boris a quick recovery though. What a devastating hit it would be for this virus to take the country's leader out!

You have to worry this could be serious for him.  You don’t go to hospital in the current situation unless it’s serious, I’m guessing this is for an X-ray to look for pneumonia.

I hope he pulls through - hopefully it’ll make everyone take it seriously.

What in the name of holy f*ck was that CMO of scotland thinking. And why has she not been sacked yet?

We cannot afford to have the public messaging undermined at such a crucial point in the epidemic. If Sturgeon doesn't sack her then she becomes just as much to blame as the CMO.

Downing Street are insisting this is "not an emergency admission" and simply as a precaution.

It isn't yet.

But this thing can get bad very suddenly. I've heard of people who have gone from under the weather to dead in the space of a few hours. That's an extreme case, but if he has been taken to hospital then that means he is in that 20% of people who have a serious infection. It means that whether or not he lives is a roll of the dice.

He will probably survive this but this is definitely not a guarantee.

They have to say that. It would course mass panic if they were clearer. The markets would plummet tomorrow.

However they spin it - any hospital admission of a PM is very serious indeed. It was very clear on Friday he was very unwell.

Agree with this, Q. Calderwood has made a big mistake here. We all make mistakes of course but this looks really bad for her in the current circumstances.

In truth, hospital is the last place you would want to go to in this climate and try to avoid at all costs, unless your situation was serious enough.

I don’t think you go to hospital at 9pm on a Sunday night unless it’s an emergency...

The other side of this is the public good that comes out of sacking her.

If she is sacked it shows that no one is immune from the law during this crisis. You can turn something bad into something useful. Not sacking her does the exact oppposite.

And I'm sorry but no one is irreplacable. What the hell is the deputy there for?

I suppose with the shut down in industry, there is a surplus.  God knows how you fit it on the bog roll holder though
