Obviously it's one paper out of many and caution should be taken on interpreting the results, but interesting nonetheless. It's suggesting for example that it might be one of the contributory factors to the large number of severe COVID-19 cases in the African American population (accordingly to the paper 80-90% of African Americans are vitamin-D deficient).

Personal experience - I've been taking vitamin-D supplements since the start of the year. My feeling is that for me, it substantially helps mood during the dark winter months. I don't know if it really affects my cold/flu symptoms (although interestingly I get far fewer colds and allergies since moving to Canada around 11 years ago).

I watched Fauci talking about it and he looked like a man who had been wheeled in agaginst his will to try and say positive about it. He managed to say it reduced the time of recovery by a few days. So hardly doing anything really significant if they were already recovering. I think a "breakthrough" is when something is something is found to prevent catching it or to stop it from killing you or at least increasing your survival chances.

I'm not one for vitamin supplements, but I read some articles on vitamin D boosting the immune system (linked to on here I think) and when shopping in Aldi just before the panic-buying kicked in, I bought a jar for I think less than £2. Figured it can't harm. Been taking them most days now since mid-March. Obviously can't know if they are doing any good, but the theory seems sound.

About a month ago, the entire Top 15, and 25 out of the Top 27 were all London boroughs. Now only 4 of the Top 10 are in London, and 3 of the Top 5 are in the Urban North East of England.
