I take it's that obesity hinders circulation & metabolism, including fighting against Covid 19. It's clear that Covid 19 badly affects persons who has circulatory problems & poor immune system (including problems caused by body processes facing resistance by excess fat).

This is made much harder with Covid19 when the lungs fill with fluid etc.

There speaks a very nasty thin person! It is not exactly self inflicted. My wife and I eat the same meals, same snacks. The only differences is she exercises a bit more than me. I am thin and she is slightly obese. Surely in your lifetime you must have come across people that can eat and eat and never put on any weight? People have different capabilities of assimilating and burning off fat. It is true if you eat less you will lose weight but not all people who are overweight are big eaters. Food in itself is an addictive drug and to just generalise about them is wrong. Have you ever tried stopping eating, drinking alcohol, or smokiing? Drugs are slightly different but people don't want to be addicts, they mostly took a very bad life decision at some point.

That's what I though Vic, but some skinny little Chinese nurse at a hospital appointment thought otherwise

I feel the same way about obese people as I do smokers and druggies. It's self inflected and they are a drain on the NHS

Next was when I bit the inside of my cheek while eating a crusty roll - it formed a mucocele and I was sent to the outpatients at the local hostpital to have it removed, a procedure which took half an hour... much to my relief it didn't even hurt. While I was at the doctor they sent me for full blood tests, took a pee sample and anothe blood pressure reading.

The third time I went to the doctor was to collect the results of the tests, which were fine aside from a slight deficiency in vitamin D. The doctor showed me the screen on his PC, they had results for all sorts of things, including phosphorus and magnesium, I think it was. Quite remarkable!

I don't consider the above over 30 years especially draining. I was annoyed at myself with the mucocele, as it was caused by me gobbling my lunch on a particularly busy day at work!

My dad was obese too, but lung cancer got him at 67. He didn't get to drain much of the NHS resources, aside from a bronchoscopy and three consultation appointments. Aside from that, he had a hernia repaired at 65, but before that, all the time I'd been alive - nothing.

My mum seldom went to the doctor either and yes, she was obese. She did go once with vertigo, the doctor said it was nothing. Two weeks late she had a massive stroke and died.

None of the above have caused a great drain on the NHS, but that's just a sample of 3.

(In my case, I don't smoke, I don't drink booze, nor sugary drinks, I don't eat meat and very rarely eggs. I have chips maybe once a month. I think my weight is mainly due to eating bread and cheese - I have salads, baked potatoes and pasta, but my main go-to is a nice cheese roll or sandwich, usually with some salad inside. I also don't exercise much, as posted in this thread a couple of days ago school managed to put me off pretty much for life! I also find the idea of running or jogging incredibly boring, but that said I have got myself a Switch with Ring Fit Adventure - that should help.)

The smoking bit is interesting too. My dad died of it, but it was a quick death and didn't take many resources. Three of my four grandparents had a similar story, lung cancer is a most efficient killer!

Here's a fun mystery game - a proper (net) curtain twitcher for you! It was taken out of my living room window just now.

Spot the object in the photo below which although not illegal, really shouldn't be out and about...

Need a hint? No, it's not the pampas grass (there since the 1970s - it was there when we moved in in 1983). It's not the spawling viburnum my mum planted in the late 90s either, nor the roses planted in the 70s.

It is, of course, the ice-cream van. What a selfish pillock driving around and luring kids out - it worked, too, as I heard my neighbour's young children going to it. There has been a massive debate locally about these guys and although it's not strictly illegal to sell ice cream from vans, the general concensus from council and public is that it should be shunned, strongly discouraged.

Look at the other countries, Russia's data is so out of sync. My guess is deaths there are close on a 1,000 a day now. Who will let the cat out of the bag there.

As I've said I was surprised, actually mortified, but I assume it was a mistake, although  I'll never know as I understand she's still having therapy for the glare I gave her

Dentists on the other hand? I go to mine regularly - it's a far cry from when I was a child, as the dentist then gave me a filling every visit whether I needed it or not.

Thanks Nick. I wouldn't have a clue about crop farming. I wonder if the farmers that need the manual help also have invested in equipment as maybe both can't do it all, or if it is just the former and they aren't able or too tight to purchase equipment in the first place.

Something like asparagus or strawberries is another matter as you have to visually select what's ready or nearly ready and leave the next picking undamaged, then you have to be exceedingly gentle with soft fruit literally placing it in your tray.

I'm still quite angry about it, and I'm still "dining out" on the problems he created with the tooth that has broken during lockdown.  It was  one of the ones he killed with a huge filling in the 70s
