The uppers are the same as they ever were.


850Hpa's typically 18c, 925's of 24c and thicknesses circa 570dam with a 950 flow from the continental ESE.


Its cloud cover that is causing the differing T2 maxes model projections.


We all know that in these situations things can and will change at very short notice.


A 2 hour burst of sunshine will easily send the temperature from 30 to 36c in such a set up.


Apart from a rather cooler Estuary flow on Sunday for some eastern coasts the situation remains hot until Wednesday.


Remain on guard...IMO 38c is still very much achievable.

Still sunny here but - having peeked out behind the curtains - there's some clouds in the medium distance. Eventually the sun will move behind them but I'm not expecting a rapid cool-down...

For those chasing records, the cloud will, of course, trap the heat in tonight. If you want to break the record (23.9 IIRC) then you'll need it to hang around! (And also for it to have been 24.0C or more at 10 AM this morning...)

Arome keeps a 25C isotherm at all times through the night in Brighton. Not quite as impressive as the 27C on yesterday's run but it would be a date record.

Well, the cloud has finally hidden the sun here. The thermometer is now in shade... and it reads 33.2C!

Given that Southend was reporting 34C 20 minutes ago and Manston was 32C, that seems a reasonable reading to me.

33C a mile from the coast is, of course, just plain silly (Southend is even more amazing, considering the onshore breeze).

Maximum here today was 34.9*C at 3.45pm, with 29%RH (matching Gusty's RH figure from Folkestone), just as the cloud came over, and it's only dropped a couple of degrees since then.
