Going to be educational seeing what the coverage of storms proves to be tomorrow. Seems a bit below predictions today but it’s hard to fairly verify that in an environment of low point-probability (i.e. chance of initiation per grid square).

Sat out on a sunny evening with an air temp of 32*C at nearly 7 pm, it sure feels like somethings going to have to apply some serious force to break the heatwave.

23.9C here - cooling down nicely. Now, if only there was some wind to draw that cooler air into the house...

Still 30C here.   Can see some towering clouds to the south east from here, not very clear as it very hazy there.

Arome 12z now suggests an hour or so of 37C tomorrow before the storms come.

If we do reach 37 tomorrow, it’ll be one of the most oppressive days ever with all of that humidity.

Last five days at Heathrow have a mean of 25.6 undecided. Think that means the five day mean there is hotter than the highest CET day on record...

It hit 30°C at my location today, so that's all three summer months this year that have recorded it. Not even 2018 managed that here...

Reading University Whiteknights (official station) maximum of 34.6C at 1637UTC

I didn’t get higher than the 34.0C I reported earlier.

You can see from today’s top 10 list on Ogimet that the highest temperatures spread out in a westward direction from Heathrow.

So heatwave degree days at the end of day 5 are 0.1 + 6.4 + 4.5 + 4.0 + 5.4 (or possibly 5.5) = 20.4. 2 more days of 35 and one more of, say, 32 would get us up to 32.4.

When I counted the other day, 2003 got to high 30s in total on account of its longevity - 10 days in a row of 30C+ versus what looks like 8 days this time.

Storm over northern France is decaying, so hopefully we won’t be affected by the cloud remnants in the morning. I still have belief that we can get a very hot day before any home-grown storms kick off. Best of both worlds!

Its only when one steps out from a well air-conditioning tesco store that the current 26.4C with humidity around 65% can truly appreciated.
