I have recorded a temperature at 34C or more three times now this year. First time that has ever happened

34.5C  31 Jul
34.1C  7 Aug
34.0C  11 Aug

Prior to this year I have only ever recorded 34C or more once in a year (1990, 2003, 2006, 2019)

Max temp recorded here today was 36.5*C at 4.00pm.  I've had enough of this heat...

I now have 39 dates in my list of temperatures at or above 35C. Tomorrow should bring us to 40.

Reading University Whiteknights (official station) maximum of 34.6C at 1637UTC

I didn’t get higher than the 34.0C I reported earlier.

You can see from today’s top 10 list on Ogimet that the highest temperatures spread out in a westward direction from Heathrow.

What an awful nights sleep. My goodness this heat is becoming unbearable.

More than happy with another intense heat day but come on, we now need some great thunderstorms as a big reward.

Though the Metoffice radar predictors shows nothing much of interest for the SE at least.

Overnight minimum at Reading University was 20.1C at 0635. Third highest minimum on record for the station.

I recorded 19.6C as a minimum.

Minimum at Heathrow was 21.7, so hot but not close to record breaking.

St James’s Park just updated: 22.0C minimum.

Mean temperature at Heathrow using yesterday’s max and the previous night’s min (35.7 and 21.2) is a whopping 28.45C.

It’s been notable how many more max temp records we’ve broken since the millennium than max mins. Perhaps SSTs are more decisive for minima, and they’ve not been particularly extreme in recent years.

Can we make it a sixth? The skies are nice and clear again this morning so it really comes down to how quickly the cloud bubbles up today.

Another calm morning here that already has the air of a fine summer’s afternoon.

The lack of cooling breezes is adding to the extraordinary feel of this heatwave. Stifling!

After making it to within a degree Celsius of the record high here yesterday, I wonder if today could possibly pull a surprise if it stays clear long enough. After all, it’s started off several degrees warmer than yesterday.

Certainly the hottest start to the day yet here. 26°C and the wind already has a hot feel about it. No cloud.

Weather.com reckons it's already 27C here. It could be as the temperature in the hallway is 26.5C and it doesn't feel any cooler outside.
