The "mega mild" winter is definitely in the post for the next few years though

NAO will flip negative again, like last April and May with the Greenland blocking high, which would have bought severe cold if it happend in the Winter.

But it arrived TOO late.

We have had a curse put upon on us since late 80s that deep-cold Easterly Winds and long fetch Northerly Winds must avoid the UK during the Winter months.

Last April was a weird one. It's not often you get a notably cool, but also a notably dry and sunny month in the warmer half of the year. It's on a par with mild, dry and sunny winter months. 17 air frosts where I used to live was pretty extraordinary and that would be decent enough for one of the winter months to do that, never mind April.

The sunshine and the dryness actually meant I didn't mind last April though. After the frost had cleared, it felt decent enough in sunshine and light winds. The worst kind of month would be something like April 2012: cold, wet, sleety and unsettled for the entire month.

Back  to the endless HP gloom once again after a couple of days of sunshine here and there. A mild night with no frost and 6.0C. AT least it will be dry ! Another winter of zero falling snow and zero snow on the ground. Mildest and least snowy run of winters in my lifetime, which is long.

This winter is going down the toilet fast, the ootput was looking a bit hopeful earlier this week, but since the weekend its looking woeful.

I bet any money you like, the pefect winter charts will appear once winter ends and will be on and off during the spring summer and autumn period this year.

Will quote this post when it happens.

After February 28th the cold charts can go do one as far as I'm concerned. Not interested in seeing spring disrupted.
Last year I remember making my annual trip to the bluebell woods in May and it was the latest and most disappointing display ever. In 2020 they were already out in force and looking at their peak during April .
I get the feeling last year was an anomaly and normal service of warm springs will be resumed in 2022....
While also I'm vaguely conscious that we're probably overdue a very poor summer (people calling 2021 poor shows we have forgotten what one is!)

Where I am January has certainly not felt an especially mild one. Many frosts in the last 2 weeks and not many days off from having to flick the heating on at least for a bit.
It may be devoid of deep cold and snow but it's hardly December 2015.
The "mega mild" winter is definitely in the post for the next few years though and the moaning on here will be next level when it happens...

This is a gloat rather than a moan. It has been another lovely winter’s day here today. Light winds, long spells of sunshine and and pleasant temperatures.

19/20 was a far worse Winter than this. So far here we've had 3 snowfalls, quite a few frosts and some lovely cold blue sky Winter days. Lots of grey anticyclonic gloom particularly just before Christmas and a lack of the cold wind and rain which I enjoy, but as I say, it could be worse in my location.

Back home 6.0c all day from an overnight low of +5c last night - currently 6.5c. with nothing happening or to report! frown

A big borefest of a winter this is turning out to be really with nothing to discuss really! - Even with high pressure there was no freezing fog or ice days so that was a waste of high although did record our coldest night of the winter on 21st January down to -3.5c here in Exeter.

Dross gloom day...bur at least a seasonal average temp day at 5c max...despite no rain for what seems like an eternity ..a walk today revealed boots full of mud...I remember when a winter Easterly would dry out the ground by freeze drying the soil...what the hells happened to the climate...such desperate and sad times..

Just seen the really annoying photos of Mykonos, an island in the middle of the warm Aegean Sea covered in snow...!! while we sit on an island in the North Atlantic and have to endure weeks on end of benign nothingness...which looks like continuing for a while...!!
