Here in Edinburgh, the temperature at 3pm BST (14:00 UTC) this afternoon was now up to 26.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 27.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so today is now the first day of this year when a temperature of 80°F or higher has been recorded anywhere here in Edinburgh.
However, the temperature at Edinburgh Airport appears to have now maxed out at 26°C.
On that very day back in 2019 when the UK's highest ever temperature on record was recorded at the botanic gardens down in Cambridge, Edinburgh Gogarbank had its own hottest day on record with a temperature of 31.6°C and yet, the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh got no higher than 26.2°C on that day, thanks to a breeze from off the North Sea which kept the north of Edinburgh that bit cooler.
This means that today has actually been even hotter at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than what it was there on that very same day when that famous temperature record was broken at nearby Edinburgh Gogarbank.
Quite remarkable when you think about it.
