But wasn't the Medieval warm period and certainly Roman times significantly warmer than today? No doubt 40C was reached then. However I think it's likely that if 40C is breached on Monday/Tuesday it could well be the hottest day for many hundreds (not thousands) of years.

The Eemian was probably warmer though.   So we may not have hit 40c for 125,000 years.

I think that’s a bit of a stretch. Slightly hazy is more accurate surely?

I've had flying ants the past couple of days - but even they (and their ground based compatriots) are hiding away today!

However, I can now hear some bird song - so something is still around      (perhaps they read my post and came out to reassure me?  )

I soaked my t-shirt in the paddling pool about an hour ago and it’s given me an hour of super cool, naturally air conditioned experience. That, my friends, is the thing to do tomorrow. Lock up the house and close all the windows, and spend the day outside in a breezy spot with soaking wet clothes.

29.0°C here.

The temperature was quite slow to get going today, but it has shot up since dinner time. It looks like it's a combination of high cloud gradually thinning and the hot air mass properly moving into place. The forecasts suggest it could be a late peak around here too, with today's high after 17:00.

Try not to exert yourself, try to stay out of the sun, keep hydrated etc.
