Increase in wind here has prevented any further rises. Both Vues are either side of 34C now after climbing to a max of 36.9C and 37.7C respectively.

It surely has to go tomorrow, but I’d have liked to get that out of the way today. Just worried about encroaching cloud of faster than forecast breakdown. That being said, models still resolute on 40C and we hopefully can get the lowest min ever recorded as well.

To my relatively untrained eye, the very high uppers for that have been forecast for tomorrow for the eastern side of England, seem to have disappeared on the 12z GFS.  Not sure if that’s actually right and how much difference to a record it might make..

I think we will see 40c quite widely tomorrow, the models got it bang on near enough today, and showing 41-42c tomorrow. I'm dreading it as we got away with it down here thanks to SWly wind, but tomorrow is SSE that will be blowtorch.

So, maybe no UK record today, but amazing how many local records have gone, and over such a wide area.
Both the MetO and BBC are showing temperatures up a degree or so down here in Benfleet tomorrow, so fingers crossed for a 40c somewhere in the UK.

Brace yourself for the Twitter geniuses saying that the fact we missed the record by 0.5C (or whatever) means the planet is cooling.

34.3°C looks like it was the highest here. That's higher than anything I've seen, including when I lived in Manchester, IIRC.

A list of records broken in France. Perhaps most noteable perhaps is Brest (Brittany) recording 39.3, smashing its previous record of 35.1C

The thermometer on the north wall still showing 35C which is the highest I've seen it go. It feels it too. And then looking at the widespread 35's around the country it's more than remarkable whatever anyone says.  I can't remember it doing this in '76.

Nottingham has broken it's 3/8/90 record which stood at 34.7 C.

Looks like 36 C has been reached there

One fun one is that the hottest rain in the world ever recorded was 46C. Not out of the question we could see rain at 43C in Lincolnshire somewhere tommorow.

I think it was the low temperature start today that stopped it going higher. Looking back at 2019 we started here at 19.1c, today we started at 15.6c and quite a heavy dew as well

Met Office maxes, likely to be the final ones now, at least for stations which report every hour, 38.1C at Santon downham, 31.1C just came up short of the N Ireland record. 37.1C is the new Welsh max as reported earlier.

Still, the overnight minimum record should be a shoo-in.

BTW amazingly the temp is now the highest it has been all day here, just before 6pm and 34.7C.

A near continuous (more constantly regenerating) thunderstorm off the headlands of Co. Mayo this afternoon, so cold front not too far off. Can't wait for the much fresher air it will bring in.
