Many of the other papers do have the heat as the headline though.

Now up to 28°C and I am feeling it getting hotter, so it's amazing that it actually felt quite cool in comparison at 24°C as that wouldn't normally be the case here.

There was a cloudier period a short while ago and even the odd spot of rain, but the Sun is now back out with a vengeance.

I set off from Glossop to Leicester this morning at 6.15am

The inversion round here this morning was simply incredible.

At my house it was 22.5c. At the bottom of the hill a mile away it was 20c.

Climbing a mile up hill to 350m the temperature was 26.5C at the summit. It was fascinating to see the temperature change so much within two miles of my house.

Here in Leicester now and it was upto 37.5 before noon. Wow just wow.

Feels like a hair dryer.

This really is phenomenal. 35°C in rural Northern England with a dry, dusty wind blowing. Didn't think I'd experience this in the UK for a while.

It's scorching, and can you imagine if this was humid heat?

The temperature here in Hawick has now jumped up to 32°C and it is now absolutely sweltering here.

Furthermore, the all time Scottish record will be broken if the temperature goes any higher, here and if that is right.

Today is Edinburgh's turn to be that bit cooler and with tomorrow being forecast to be much cooler in general, that is probably now the final nail in the coffin as regards to Edinburgh's chances of experiencing its own hottest day on record in this heatwave.

The latest temperatures up there are around 26°C at Edinburgh Airport, 25°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and just 22°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Note it has been consistently showing colder uppers than the GFS, but the distribution is what matters.

Now 34°C here in Hawick which definitely would beat the Scottish record, and it would a real shame if this was scuppered by no other factor, other than the sheer lack of official stations in this part of the world.
