Cambridge, Heathrow and London City all 33C on the 9.20 METARs. You'd think we can squeeze out 7 degrees with the whole day to come (although I think it will need to be done by 3pm at the latest today)

Also incredibly widespread heat. Southend, Porthmadog, Pershore, Manchester... Will be a warm CET today - presumably smashing the all time CET record.

Some or all of those must be under threat from this spell.

Last night was horrendous. 2 year old was up multiple times and then 6 year old woke up at 6am and threw up. Now I've got a headache. Not good!

It's hot very early this morning. Already pushing towards 32C. Quite a lot of hazy cloud around though and the satellite shows a lot more pushing up through Wales.

Last night when I went to bed Arome was showing maxes of 41C. This morning 38C.

Looks like it’s not happening this year after all.

33 here but seems to be a fair bit of high level cloud. What is it looking like in the Cambridge area? Can't see anywhere south and west of London making 40 today.

The BBC were forecasting 41c or 42c for Lincolnshire area northwards for today. But it needs to be remembered this is potential heat, not a given, requiring lots of things to come together to achieve such extraordinary values.

I sort of feel the forecasters are on a hiding to nothing in these scenarios: underestimate the temps and they will lambasted by the media (especially the tabloid end) and overestimate temps and they get accused of scaremongering or worse from GW sceptics.

35C here at 9.55am. This is insane. 5C hotter than same time yesterday when max was 38.5C. At this rate of increase it will hit 40C by noon.

We managed to keep our one year old granddaughter cool splashing in a little pool and keeping her in wet clothes. She was occasionally grumpy and clingy but when she went home her mum reported two new teeth had come through.  Only Eden could choose such heat to be teething!  They put an air con unit in her room last night and she settled OK.

The cool air (or less hot air) has arrived here. At 8:45 it was 29.7C which I thought might be a false reading as it was so high, that was until I read this thread. However, the wind speed suddenly increased and now the temperature is a pleasant 25.2C.

A real shame to lose the 40+ figures though right on the eve of the event.
