Never thought I'd see that.

There is indeed a huge fire at RAF Northolt currently being attended by the fire service
A40 closed in both directions as a result
Here is that METAR from Northolt

At a conservative estimate I would say two dozen stations are going to break the previous record. Actually make that three dozen. There has never been a day like today. The CET record is surely going to be smashed.
38.9C in Sheffield is just astonishing.
42.3c IMBY! Not screened though so it’ll be too high, but not by much as Doncaster is 40c.

Still no official 40C unrounded readings other than Heathrow as yet, as far as I know. 39.9C at Charlwood the closest.
Here we are down to 35.3 from a peak of 36.4.
Now 34°C here in Hawick which definitely would beat the Scottish record if that was to be officially confirmed, and it would a real shame if that was scuppered for no reason other than the sheer lack of official stations in this part of the world.

As you say though, it's hard to get an 'official' record if there's no 'official' stations
Cambridge Airport was at 39 for the 14:50 report. Have to wait till tomorrow to see what the botanical gardens got/gets to

Between 39.2C to 39.8 in the last hour so only pipped 40.1C for few minutes. So far no 42C official up in Yorkshire, It think it very hard to get to 42C as not many Met stations recording 40C
Has anybody checked out the rain radar ? interesting front of rain South West into Wales, its now clouded up here in my part of Gloucestershire. Looks like the 2 day heatwave is over for the time being

Doncaster back down to 39C. 40C is still proving a tough nut to crack, but I think the 4pm update will have a couple.
Amazingly after the front went through, Chivenor in Devon has climbed back up to 30C again!
Amazing temperature that, Brogdale has got to be close to 40c I'd have thought. Hovering between 34-35c here nearer the south coast.

Indeed I took that into account but it gave a highest half-hourly reading of 37.8, and I'm not sure it would under-read by that much based on comparing past data.
CambridgeNIAB's latest was 39.4, which would usually give 39.9 at the Botanic Garden, so for sure it will be close.
One mystery cleared up: Cambridge Botanic Garden top temperature yesterday was 38.0C. So no record, unless Brogdale stepped up.https://twitter.com/CUBotanicGarden/status/1549330404502642688.
My prediction for 4pm is that Coningsby and/or Scampton will smash past Heathrow's 40.2.
Just checked where I'm going to be holidaying at the end of the month.
15c and raining
This only about 300 miles from where it's reached 100f today. The climate of this country is absolutely nuts.
