Some serious heatwave coming up for Chicago on 1st July before I leave on 2nd July.  Good timing and maybe some possible upgrade on the heat, it was orginally to be 33C on Friday to now 35C. 1 member going for near 28C which could deliver 38-40C in here.

They upgraded the heat on Friday to 36C 97F but still 29C on Thursday and Saturday, we going to the Six Flags swimming park on Thursday so 29C are perfect for swimming, I wish we can go on Friday but we have to rest and wash out clothes before packing away for travelling back on Sat pm.  So I will be very busy enjoying the Friday heat and something I haven't see that temps since 19th July 2006 in UK.

Interesting report on the dry heat in Las Vegas!

The heat affecting West Texas in particular earlier in the week has spread north now to also affect the High Plains and Rockies. Western Kansas looks like a hotspot today with Dodge City (for example) expecting to see a high of 111f. 100f readings as far north as South Dakota (Rapid City).

Yes if they do hit 100F on Friday I will be very glad to see it since I0th August heatwave here at 101.4F and in Sept 2001 in Cyprus which was my last time I visited there that saw 38C 100F.

Forecast still going for 36C 97F on Friday then 31C on Saturday when we go to the airport in the afternoon then facing a sickening 5-6C in London on Sunday early morning when I arrive.

Hello all, it's been a very busy first week back at work and i'm now just catching the chance to get on-line and report on our fine weather of this week and the upcoming Canada Day weekend celebrations. Catching the chance i say with a Molsten Canadian in hand - in our back garden in 25c and sunny skies (no humidity) = perfect!!

It's been a good week of settled weather here in the Golden Horseshoe. Not always sunny but pleasantly warm and no sign really of any sustained unsettled weather going forward either. One or two Thunderstorms North of Toronto earlier in the week but nothing severe and as Canada Day arrives tomorrow we're set for 27c or 81f and lovely sunny conditions. Canada Day being a national holiday signals the start of the July holiday season and with the Royal Couple having just touched down in Ottawa a couple hours ago, there's an extra buzz about this year's celebrations.

It is expected that even although they won't visit the GTA, Torontorians and Southern Ontariorians alike will watch the couple on TV over the holiday weekend as the meet and greet firstly in Ottawa before moving eastward into Quebec City and eventually picturesque Prince Edward Island in the coming days.

Of course Canadian's, Native or otherwise don't need a royal visit to have a great time and the weather will aid this over the weekend with only Saturday seeing the chance of a shower or thunderstorm in these parts. Temps touching 30c over the long weekend also but humidity will increase and a humidex advisory is expected to be released by EC in the next 24hrs. Here's CTV Toronto's take on the long holiday weekend - http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110630/toronto-in-for-a-humid-long-weekend-110630/20110630/?hub=TorontoNewHome.

I'm off till Tuesday, taking Monday as a holiday also and hoping to take the wife down to Niagara on Sunday into Monday for a wee trip away! The weather looks like aiding all these plans perfectly - good call i'd say!

Looking at your posts Jiries, i see your enjoying Chicagoland's weather! Hopefully you get the 37c or so tomorrow, i've encountered that here on a few rare occasions and it's one of those feelings that sticks in your mind for a while later. Incredible feeling heat, however maybe not as incredibly feeling as that McCarron International post of 129f - you'd need said umbrella <<<< to stay alive and keep the sun off you in that heat, that temp is truely extrordinary.

Finally, interesting to see that a planned windfarm project (weather dependant of course) could be kicked into touch by NAV Canada for the new windfarm on the approaches to Hamilton airport. Away from the non-sensacle debate about the amount of air traffic in/out of Hamilton now, these windfarms do create problems for radar coverage at airports and are a real safety threat if not isolated by new technology. Here's the Spec.com article here - http://www.thespec.com/news/local/article/555121--wind-farm-hits-airport-turbulence. This same problem has arisen back in Irvine, Ayrshire where a local pharmacutical company wishes to produce upto 12% of it's power from wind energy. Prestwick Airport, just 8 miles away or so is also complaining that such a project would interfere with it's approach radar coverage and thus impeding on safety of aircraft movements.

Whatever your upto this coming weekend make sure it's a good one. I'm going to enjoy the sun and the Canada Day / Weekend celebrations. Will try and post update at some stage during the weekend.

Well Chicago is topic of the moment - the NWS is going for a more modest high of 95f today - but whatever, it will be hot and humid - enjoy Jiries!

Meanwhile a happy Canada Day to all our Canadian contributors. Plenty of sunshine on offer in both Calgary and southern Ontario with highs of 21c in Calgary and 28c forecast for Toronto - perfect day for the holiday.

And forget the royal couple, those in the know are well aware that the only dignitary that matters this weekend is Roy Halladay returning to Toronto to pitch for the Phillies tomorrow - I will be glued to that game!

Very interesting last night that I will never forget and reminded me when UK used to have those night storms with warm temps that no longer exist anymore.

I just hope the storms won't occur too violently tomorrow when I go to the airport because of last night the storms height went up to 57,000 that no planes can avoid it.  My flight leave at 6pm which may be effected by the storms tomorrow.

Thanks for the link and I wish I see those hail storms, maybe it did here but we were out.

So far is cloudy and low 70's but they still predicting a hot flow to get in here by mid-afternoon.

Once again, been offline for a while - life is keeping me fully occupied!  June's big story was the enevitable monsoon - and it was very wet - 18 days of precipitation measurable during the month.

July, so far, has been a different story.  For the main part dry, sunny, temps in the low-mid 20s.  Very pleasant!  For the most part it looks like remaining the same, though on Thur a cold front comes through, pegging the temps back 5C or so and maybe giving some showers.

Yesterday's big meteorological story was a windstorm that blew through the city for a half hour on the back of a thunderstorm.  Not a common event, but it does happen here.  I saw plenty of downed branches this morning, and apparently there was some other damage.

Hello folks, back from Niagara yesterday and our warm at times hot spell of weather is continuing with one or two exceptions thrown in. Currently 27c, expected by EC a high of 30c/86f but with 4 o'clock approaching and cloudier skies around i'd be surprised if we seen that. Weekend was mostly dry except late Saturday night for the Canada Day/Weekend celebrations. We had a Thundery line move through around 11pm which did trigger a Severe Thunderstorm watch for Hamilton, earlier and further West this same storm system caused trees to be felled and reports of large hail and some straight-line wind damage mostly to rural locations between London & Windsor.

Temps maxed out at 29c on Sat & Sun with higher humidity nearer 40 recorded on Saturday. Looking ahead, we stay warm and just above average for the rest of the week with a chance of some Thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon.

Here's some pics we took recently, most recently the ones of Niagara Falls taken on Sunday just past. A Canadian Summer i guess you could call the title, must say we can't complain currently about poor summer weather.....it's now been nearly 4wks since those strong storms passed thru before i flew to Scotland :

Yes Stewart the old Skydome is a stirring sight although with the way the Jays have been playing the All-Star break can't come soon enough.  Will be good to watch Jose in the HR Derby!

The weather over NA is in real midsummer mode now, with plenty of heat and humidity, scattered bouts of severe thunderstorms (though nothing compared to what occurs in Spring) and all eyes on the tropics to spot anything of note.

There's been hints that a system might organise a little and move up the east coast but the main threat is heavy rain rather than any tropical storm formation. All this activity is putting the final Shuttle launch at risk of delay, though. Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific Tropical Storm Calvin has formed off the south coast of Mexico.

Temperatures over North America have settled down to pretty typical July values - though Texas continues to be hot with Lubbock once again well over 100f. Up in Southern Ontario a great weekend in prospect with highs in the upper twenties, reaching into the low 30s celsius come Sunday.

In eastern Canada, finally some decent warmth into Newfoundland. St John's was still reporting single figures for highs in the second half of June but July has started much better with a run of >20c days. Yesterday peaked at 25c in St John's.

Have a good weekend everyone.
