This month: 71.1 mm
This year: 871.8 mm

My previous maximum recorded annual rainfall total was 740mm in 2014. We've broken that by quite a long way this year and I'm quite excited now that we might get 900mm for this year. Touch and go though, not much rain in the forecast...

My weather station stands at 160mm for December, but it's certainly understated by a good 30 or 40mm at least. I think that storm before Christmas (which one?) knocked something loose as it didn't measure for about two days.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total up to 9am (09:00 UTC) this morning: 10.8 mm
Total since 9am (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.0 mm as at 6pm this evening (on Friday 29 December 2023).

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 108.2 mm (144.5% of  December average).
Number of rain days during this month so far: 16 (122.3% of  December average).
Number of dry days during this month so far: 6

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month than the  December average and so regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this month will go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, more official rain days have now been recorded during this month than the  December average and so this month will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

Seasonal Data

Total for this winter so far: 108.2 mm (51.8% of  winter average)
Number of rain days during this winter so far: 16 (43.1% of  winter average).
Number of dry days during this winter so far: 6

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 814.0 mm (103.8% of  annual average).
Number of rain days during this year so far: 134 (97.5% of  annual average).
Number of dry days during this year so far: 161

This means that more rain has now fallen during this year than the  annual average and so regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this year will go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, there are not enough days left in this month for it to be possible for this year to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days and so regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this year will do down as being drier than average in terms of the number of rain days.

81mm MTD after 7.8mm today so far

1000mm for the year beating my record of 12 years using a VP2, which was 875mm back in 2012

Albeit the year isn't quite done, the annual stats show 1 really dry month this year in Feb, 1 other month that was dry, June - the rest have been at average or above to well above.

The squall line appeared to have thankfully lost some of its punch by the time that got here at Folkestone in the early hours last night, but frequent blustery showers during the course of today have given me dead on 20 mm so far.

139mm, maybe a shower or two to come this evening.  1343.2mm for the year.  I moved from North Devon on November 9th so the majority of the yearly rain was recorded there. Figures for Dartmoor, 391.2mm this month, 2807.8mm for the year.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 Hour Total up to 9am (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.4 mm

Monthly Data

Final total for December 2023: 111.2 mm (148.5% of  December average).
Number of rain days during December 2023: 17 (130.0% of  December average).
Number of dry days during December 2023: 7

A thoroughly wet month both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, and in terms of the number of rain days.

Seasonal Data

Total for this winter so far: 111.2 mm (53.2% of  winter average)
Number of rain days during this winter so far: 17 (45.8% of  winter average).
Number of dry days during this winter so far: 7

Annual Data

Final total for 2023: 817.0 mm (104.2% of  annual average).
Number of rain days during 2023: 135 (98.2% of  annual average).
Number of dry days during 2023: 162

2023 was drier than average for the first half of it, which was enough raise a number of concerns about possible water shortages by the start of the summer. Indeed, SEPA even had us at alert level for water shortages at one point.

Once we got into July though, the heavens then opened and the second half of the year was much wetter.

In the end, 2023 was wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts but slightly drier than average in terms of the number of rain days.
