A remarkable 27.6mm of rain yesterday here, with probably a bit more to come today. It *was* (emphasis on *was*) looking like a drier than average month here, but that's gone out the window now!

Not only have the models handled temperatures poorly, it seems they can't handle rainfall properly either - although UKV did up the intensity at the last minute, GFS stuck with less than 10mm throughout.

EDIT: That was the wettest day here since the 3rd November 2022, which saw 42mm fall.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Monthly Data

Final Total for April 2024: 111.2 mm (242.4% of 1991-2020 April average)
Number of rain days during April 2024: 13 (141.2% of 1991-2020 April average)
Number of dry days during April 2024: 12

April 2024 was actually a month of two halves with the second first half of the month being exceptionally wet, and then with the second half the month being quite a lot drier.

In the end, April 2024 was an exceptionally wet month in terms of both of the actual rainfall amounts and the number of official rain days with more than twice our annual 1991-2020 April average rainfall although most of that actually fell during the first half of the month.

Seasonal Data

Total for this spring so far: 212.4 mm (143.0% of 1991-2020 spring average)
Number of rain days during this spring so far: 26 (86.0% of 1991-2020 spring average)
Number of dry days during this spring so far: 22

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 338.6 mm (43.2% of 1991-2020 annual average)
Number of rain days during this year so far: 53 (38.6% of 1991-2020 annual average)
Number of dry days during this year so far: 39

It's just been confirmed by the Met Office that Edinburgh has just had its second wettest April on record. In addition to that, the UK as a whole has just had its 6th wettest April on record according to data which date all the way back to 1836 with Scotland experiencing its fourth wettest April on record.
