There lies the road to disappointment, and we still see it today.

It has been exceptionally warm this year in general, and I've certainly noticed it... especially with the dewpoints (as last year). There have already been 15s and 16s (even today is 13.4), and that's high for May... it used to be July and August (the "dog days") which would see dewpoints regularly of 15 or more. Not any more!

Global warming is a bugger, isn't it?

👍 If this is Spring, you have to wonder what summer will bring.

Think we maxed at 14c yesterday, and today feels even chillier. Tomorrow not much better and, whilst Saturday is looking to be OK with max temps around 20-22c in the CET zone, they're looking to fall back again through next week.

Surely a slight drop-off in the CET value over the coming days? As it stands (caveat: model output is swinging around at present), I'd be thinking around 14..0c to 14.2c before any adjustments

I do find it quite odd that (in the last 12 months) June 23, Sept 23, Feb 24 and now (barring a spectacular collapse) May 24 have all had some kind of claim to bring the hottest on record yet it's barely generated an inch of media attention outside maybe the Guardian and it's ilk. While if there was a single July day where it hit 40C somewhere we would never hear the end of it.

Maybe the story is just considered boring now , but I guess when exceptional warmth is mundane you know the trend is having visible consequences even in this (comparatively sheltered) mid latitude nation.

The press like extreme events like heatwaves, floods, blizzards etc. This is a persistent underlying warmth (especially overnight). From a journalistic viewpoint, they probably think it is not such a great headline?

I still think it would be big news if it was a month known for heat.
A record breaking July or August would be all over the headlines . July 2006 and August 1995 are examples of such , the main story then was that the heat had gone on for so long at such a consistently high level (and in the case of 1995 extreme driness too), not the temps recorded in the hottest days (though these were still notably high).
But even then maybe less so now. It's been discussed before on here how hot summers no longer seep into the national psyche the way 1976,1995,2003 did.

It's amazing how social media is full of people moaning about how cold it is when we have had the warmest first half of May on record, and May is currently 3C above average!

I think they must never be going outside, just looking at the cloud and rain and assuming it is chilly.
