I still standby my assertion that at least for the next 2 weeks most of the UK will be experiencing wetter windier weather and marginally below average temperatures for this period but as always we will see...

This cool spell looks set to continue into July
the Met Office has substantially downgraded its long term forecast for the foreseeable ..... certainly no sign of any heatwave for weeks

Just put the portable a/c on, as it's been above 25C all afternoon upstairs and no sign of it cooling down any time soon (it's still 20C outside, having been 21.8 earlier).

Some "cool spell" this! 😓

Hasn't been a bad first 8 days here, sunshine at various times on every day and little in the way of rain. At this time of year it's warm in any sunshine so very useable.

A more closer to average 15c - 16c here and still feels oppressively warm. Power of high level solar radiation.

I could feel the sun even though the clouds were quite thick (which is why I went outside when I did - doing it in full sun is a mug's game). It's notable this time of year how even if it's quite dark grey in terms of cloud, there's still more than enough light to cast shadows... it shows how high the sun is in June.

Spoke to Rick who own the Cyprus Kita Weather website and do lot of weather event reports and sometimes storm chasing on Messenger about suggestion to install temperature display in Nicosia and Jubliee hotel in Troodos.  He like my suggestion and he might do with his current live cams as have no display temperatures.

I been looking at this Santa Claus village live cam and really like the dsiplay design.  I saw toursts standing by it for pictures and most wearing shots, today i see 23C wheh I checked.  For the UK live cam with display forget it due to boring climate lately and more risk of vandalisms.

The last few days have actually been quite decent here. Plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the high teens, along with light winds has made it feel reasonably warm. Evenings have been cool though, and overnight it's been positively cold. We've had 3 sub 7C minima this June!

MetO forecast for this afternoon: heavy, low cloud. 18C. GFS forecast: light cloud, 16C.

Reality? Sunny spells, 19C.

Just what is it with the models being so crap lately? I would love to see a cold day, but it remains as elusive as chasing a rainbow.

(Pic of the view from the living room, taken just now - it's now back to 19C in there, 22C upstairs).

No heat to dry out the clay, and any sun immediately cancelled out by bits and bobs of rain.

Today? Rain this morning after rain last night and now sunny but rain never more than ten minutes away due to the frin'ts location and set up.

I need to paint fences, do general stuff, but I've only just got the bedding plants out and feel just to bb running up against it for this summer. Everything's so behind.

I saw the Deep Dive and Ten dayer last week and although not wall to wall sunshine on offer that high pressure which has promised to come over but has been consistently over egged by the models has stayed away, and this coming week it's deteriorating almost by the hour.

This isn't typical June weather by any means, even in the wastes of lower Northern England.

A contribution to the 'warmer and wetter' debate from someone whose livelihood depends on it:

Being wetter and warmer than usual has meant everything we have sown has grown and our crops are a few days ahead of time. This has been so different to the last few Springs, where below average rainfall and above average sunshine meant some of the seeds sown didn’t grow.

Currently 14 C here at Folkestone, that is quite poor noon time temperatures for this time of year even though it is dry with some brightness. If I am still working in them tomato greenhouses, I'd be glad of the freshness and hope it stays that way for as long as possible, but since I no longer work under glass I'm yearning for any actual warmth so that I can break out the garden chair or at least not need to wear a cardigan when going into the town. I'm still not a fan of true heatwave conditions (30 C and higher) but 21 C to 25 C with a nice drop of sunshine would do me just fine. I'm not too fussy.

It's the sun which makes all the difference, at this time of year it only takes a few minutes for the temperature to shoot up.

Mind you, I pretty much got my wish from a few days ago: so far today has been what I'd consider a cold day in summer terms, peaking at 16.3, which is 4C below normal. That just scrapes into the "cool" rather than the "rather cool" category on the old MetO system (back when they paid particular attention to their wording - it's been much more lax of late). "Cold" in summer is officially reserved for more than 5C below average, which is a big ask!

Why does it always go dead bloody sunny at this time? It's like a massive kick in the nads after another grey and dreary day.

Dont get me wrong, I also find it fascinating, in the same way you did the extreme heat of two summers back. It’s so out of the ordinary for recent years. Fact.

I generally need aircon when it gets into the 20s outside (which is most days this time of year!) as my upstairs is a shed, essentially, plonked on top of a bungalow in the 70s. It's unpleasant trying to sleep when it's 25+ indoors, of course, hence a/c to cool things down. It used to be much cooler in there in the 80s summers, with only the odd day getting above 25. Now it's unusual for it not to get that warm.

I rarely see the wolves these days, maybe once a month, but it's split as to whether it's warmer there than here. If we get a sea breeze it's cooler here, but in the common SW'ly setup it'll be warmer at home - the north Kent coastal area benefits, if you like, from a foehn effect as SW'lies cross the Downs. It's why Faversham (6 miles away to the south) held the UK record for a while.

No hamming needed for the averages btw, just pointing out that average means just that - you would expect temperatures to be below half the time, roughly.... and in the past 10, 15 years that seldom happens - even in winter! As I've said, people generally think we're in the Med (even those in the school where I worked), and get disappointed if it's not 5C or more above average every day. That's as unrealistic as hoping for a 1987 redux in winter, but people don't see it that way.

A run of a few days that are 3 or 4C below average in June is indeed noteworthy these days. It's sad that it's come to that, really, as a run of days 3 or 4 above (as we had repeatedly in May) doesn't even make people bat an eyelid - it's expected!

PS - you have my sympathies for working in central London. It can be unbearable there in summer, especially on the Tube, and as it happens... I'll be there for a few days at the end of the month, using up my hotel points in lieu of a Japan trip. I'm hoping the cooler conditions return then, but knowing my luck it'll be 30+!
