The weather is cooling down from the latest hot spell. The coming week will see a mix of conditions with drier and wetter days alternating and temperatures somewhat up and down.
Saturday morning has had cloud and some showers in the east and south east but most of these should clear away this afternoon as brighter skies and fresher air moves in from the west. Scotland and Northern Ireland have had sunshine and showers and these look set to continue.
So by the end of the afternoon much of England and Wales will be dry and bright but sunshine and showers remain for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Temperatures will be close to average at 15C to 23C and it will feel cooler and fresher compared to recent days in the south and east.
Overnight, most places will have a dry night with clear spells and variable cloud but light rain and drizzle will push into western Scotland and Northern Ireland by nights end. Temperatures will be cooler than recent night but still relatively warm at 8C to 15C.
Sunday will find light rain and drizzle in the far north west through the morning turning heavy and persistent into the afternoon. Much of Scotland and Northern Ireland will turn very wet while England and Wales stays dry with the best of the sunny spells in the south and east. Temperatures will be rather cool at 13C to 21C.
Low pressure will dominate the weather to the west of Scotland on Monday.
We'll see further pulses of heavy and persistent rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland while England and Wales stay dry with sunny spells and variable cloud; Becoming very warm and humid again in the south and east with temperatures between 24C and 27C but cooler in the north and west with temperatures around 14C to 20C.
A weather front pushes southeastwards across England and Wales on Tuesday, taking a band of rain with it. The rain probably becomes lighter and patchier through the day and won't arrive in the south east until evening. Brighter skies and scattered showers follow to the north and west. Temperatures will still be very warm or locally hot in the far south east where 28C is possible but other a cooler day for most with temperatures of 13C to 20C.
Wednesday should bring a straight forward run of westerly winds so it will be a day of sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers could be heavy in the north but should be light in the south. Temperatures about average at 15C to 23C.
The weather through Thursday and Friday looks generally mixed with showers for the north and west but southern and eastern regions should have mostly dry weather. A north/south split with temperatures so quite cool in the north at 13C to 18C but warm or very warm at times in the south at 23C to 26C.
Next weekend is very uncertain but we might see the weather turning more generally unsettled and cooler with rain gathering to the south and west...
