Summer 2024 has been dominated by low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south. This broad scenario looks set to continue for the week ahead even with the remains of Hurricane Ernesto moving into the north Atlantic through the middle of the week...
Saturday morning has been mostly dry but we have had some showers across Scotland. This afternoon will stay the same with a few scattered showers across Scotland but most places will stay dry with sunny spell, the best of which will be in the south and east. Temperatures will be close to average at 15C to 24C.
Scattered showers continue for western Scotland but most places will stay dry with clear spells and variable cloud. Temperatures will be close to average at 8C to 15C.
Sunday will have more mostly light, scattered showers across Scotland but the majority of the country will remain dry with sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud. Average temperatures again at 15C to 23C.
A new area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic during Monday and Tuesday.
Most places will start dry Monday dry with sunny spells but heavy and persistent outbreaks of rain will arrive in the west through the afternoon while eastern regions stay dry. A warmer day in the east with temperatures ranging from 23C to 27C but cool with the rain in the west at 13C to 18C.
Outbreaks of rain pushes eastwards on Monday night to be replaced by showers into the north and west.
Tuesday will see showers or longer spells of rain in central, northern and western regions while the south and south east remains mostly dry with sunny spells. Still very warm in the south east corner at 25C to 27C but generally cooler with temperatures of 14C to 21C.
Wednesday brings us a flat westerly flow with showers in the north and west of Scotland while most places stay dry with sunny spells in the south and east. Temperatures range from 14C to 22C.
Thursday and Friday have quite a bit of uncertainty as the remains of Hurricane Ernesto moves into the north Atlantic as an area of low pressure.
Generally Scotland and Northern Ireland can expect rain or showers at times while England and Wales should keep a lot of dry and fine weather going. Very warm and humid air is likely to be pumped northwards into the north Atlantic with temperatures through southern England perhaps reaching 27C (81F) for a time.
