The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 hour total up to 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning: 17.0 mm
Total since 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning: 3.8 mm (as at 7:10 am BST (06:10 UTC) this morning on Saturday 24 August 2024)

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 60.2 mm (80.6% of 1991-2020 August average)
Number of rain days during this month: 12 (107.4% of 1991-2020 August average)
Number of dry days during this month: 6

This means that at least another 14.6 mm of rain still needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go
down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, more official rain days have now been recorded during this month than the 1991-2020 August average and so regardless of
what happens during the rest of this month, this month will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number
of rain days.

Seasonal Data

Number of rain days during this summer: 31 (92.0% of 1991-2020 summer average)
Number of dry days during this summer: 33

This means that at least another 3 official rain days now need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this
summer to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 661.0 mm (84.3% of 1991-2020 annual average)
Number of rain days during this year: 100 (72.8% of 1991-2020 annual average)
Number of dry days during this year: 85

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 hour total up to 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.6 mm
Total since 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning: 2.2 mm (as at 10:30 pm BST (21:30 UTC) tonight on Wednesday 28 August 2024)

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 71.4 mm (95.6% of 1991-2020 August average)
Number of rain days during this month: 15 (134.3% of 1991-2020 August average)
Number of dry days during this month: 7

This means that only at least another 3.4 mm of rain now needs to fall between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

There might just be an outside chance of that happening if we get any heavy showers during tomorrow, otherwise that is probably unlikely now as there are only three days left of this month and the rest of the month after tomorrow is looking a lot drier according to the latest forecasts.

Seasonal Data

Total for this summer so far: 160.6 mm (74.6% of 1991-2020 summer average)
Number of rain days during this summer: 34 (100.9% of 1991-2020 summer average)
Number of dry days during this summer: 34

This means that more official rain days have now been recorded during this summer than the 1991-2020 summer average and so regardless of what happens during the rest of this month, this summer will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the
number of rain days.

The only upside is that I've not had to cut the lawn for over a month. The grass has died away for the summer and the only thing still growing are the dandelions. The downside is that the leaf drop is now getting quite severe, I'll need to get the rake out soon!

August rainfall down here was 44.4mm last August we had 90.6mm so reasonable dry. Most of the rain bearing fronts passed to the north leaving us under mainly cloudy skies with just some mizzle or light drizzle at times.
