During August, the west and north of Scotland had a very wet month whilst SE England had a very dry month. Here in Edinburgh, we were very much twixt in between those two extremes and ended up with rainfall amounts which were very close to average, though very slightly below the 1991-2020 August average.

So far this year, we've had an exceptionally wet spring followed by a dry summer, although that was a summer in which each month was progressively wetter than its predecessor. Now, we are into the a brand new month and a brand new season, so there will be a lot of questions being asked about where we go from there.

As we go into this month, a lot of people in SE England will no doubt be praying for rain (I think that Darren (Retron) springs to mind here) whilst those in NW Scotland in particular will just be praying for a much needed respite from their rainfall. Regardless of how all of that pans out though, this is the very place for reporting those all important rainfall totals for this month.

Although we have been under high pressure over the last couple of days, there is the chance of showers or thunderstorms moving up from the south in parts of England in particular during today, so there might already be one or two members who will already have something to report for this month by the end of today.

I have therefore started this thread just now so that these members will now have the chance to do so.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I'm up to 23mm for the month here, thanks to that 20-minute downpour yesterday. Leysdown was right on the western extremity of the very heavy rain, though, even a couple of miles away to the west there was much less.
