Less cold than in recent days, with a breeze persisting. It's clear, 9.0, dew 6.8, and the low so far is 9.0. Yesterday's high was 17.1, meaning there was a 17C differential between 850 and 2m temperatures - large for the time of year!

Dropped to 1.1 this morning as I put outside the 3rd wireless sensor to record it as it unusual to be that cold early.  Sunny now.

A very cold start to today here in Edinburgh with the first ground frost of the season being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, today has also started off on a bright and sunny note here.

Currently around 2°C here in Edinburgh.

The official overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is confirmed as just 0.8°C which isn't low enough to give us an actual official air frost, but we weren't all that far away from getting that and this was enough to give us our first ground frost of the season.

In addition to that, this also makes last night our coldest night since away back on Sunday 28 April 2024.

Meanwhile, the temperature has recovered to around 6°C here in Edinburgh in the very bright sunshine.

Dull and breezy. A real autumnal feeling 13.0c. Just a pity that endless daylight is still around at this time of year.

Sunny here and the wind has dropped away. Slightly less cold than recently, too, 15.3 / dew 7.1, today's high being 17.7 compared to yesterday's 17.1. The big difference with yesterday is that there's been a much longer period above 15C (6 hours so far, compared with less than 4 yesterday).

It's 24C upstairs as a result, compared to just 20C yesterday at this time.

The dewpoint is quite low, albeit nowhere near the GFS' forecast of 2C. There won't be much wind tonight and if skies manage to stay clear I reckon a minimum air temperature of 5C will be in reach, which would be remarkably low for mid-September. We'll see!

I take little heed of either the GFS or ECM projections on low humidity and DPs, they nearly always overegg them, and by no small mile either.

Clear and almost calm this morning - just the odd very light puff of wind. That's enough to stop things becoming very cold, but even so it's presently 5.8, dew 4.1 - the coldest since the 5th May (which reached 4.7).
Both Southend and Shoeburyness, across the water from here, have reached 3C. That's what we'd have had here if not for that slight breeze!

Clear and calm and down to 6C.
The last two chilly nights seem to have encouraged my wisteria to suddenly start to turn yellow.
My good neighbours snowy mespilus (amelanchier) has lost most of its leaves after turning fiery red and orange recently.
First to come into the leaf/blossom and the first to lose all its leaves.

Following on from our coldest night of the year a couple of nights ago, today was our warmest day of this year so far with a maximum temperature of 18.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

It's also windy though and there is a lot of cloud around with a total of just 1.7 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Now, the temperatures are refusing to drop here, and the temperature just now is still up at around 15°C here in Edinburgh.🤢
