I've had an email from the lady who owns the wolf centre, near Reading - they've had that storm system pass overhead, with frequent lightning, torrential rain and hail. Looks like some 150+mm/hour rates there.
The reason I mention it is to share an anecdote. Unlike us, wolves aren't overly bothered by being outside in heavy rain and hail. I remember once we were in the enclosure with them and it started chucking it down, heavy rain and hail. We were the other end of site from shelter, a good 1/4 mile away, so we took refuge in the only place we could... the wolves' kennels! The look they gave us as we huddled in there remain with me to this day!
(Despite there being more than enough room for the wolves to come in with us, as the kennels are large buildings, they were happier to stay outside and watch us. After the storm, the hail remained on the wolves' fur, but they weren't in the slightest bit fussed by it!)
