Still no actual weather happening here, but this morning has got off to a a very cold and frosty start with an official air frost at all three of my local stations.

Indeed, last night was our coldest night of this autumn so far by quite a considerable amount with an overnight minimum temperature of -3.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and even down to around -5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Nevertheless, today has also got off to a bright and sunny start with just a little bit of high cloud around.

Currently around -1°C here in Edinburgh.

At 9.50am a decent ground frost is still present. Cars well covered with it and wheelie-bin lids frozen shut.

There used to be major skating events down your way but mostly they have been discontinued for "health and safety" reasons.

Our neighbour, who grew up in the days where river levels were less "managed" recalled skating to Lincoln and to Boston from near Coningsby. Here's a great pic of the Lincolnshire Rifle Volunteers skating when they could not drill as usual.

Today has been our coldest day of this autumn so far by a country mile with a maximum temperature of just 2.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is rather impressive given that we're not even into the actual meteorological winter just yet.

As a result, there is still some frost around which is left over from last night that hasn't completely melted all day.

It did cloud over a bit during this afternoon but even with that, the temperatures are dropping away once again and here in Edinburgh, the temperature is already at around -1°C with an official air frost at all three of my local stations once again.

Beat me to it John! Most of this morning's frost is still here and our maximum was only 1.5 C. We are in the permanent shadow of Blackford Hill now until late January and it's always colder when it's calm and clear. The temperature is steadily falling now, currently -1.5 C

Sleet and snow mix here, right now. It's been mostly rain the last couple of hours so maybe it will turn fully to snow soon.

Good to see the snow settling in the Midlands so early in the year. Been notable here this evening as our first rainfall over 1-2mm for almost a month now. Not often we get a month with zero rain and almost zero sun! I wouldn't want to be out in it though. 7C and heavy rain is never fun!

I think I'm hoping for snow this winter but if it is proper snow I might have to reconsider. There not being any significant snow or ice for nearly 7 years now - the Beast being the last, in which time I have become noticably older with less leg strength and poorer balance. I've I will soon be just watching through a window I fear and become an old person moaning about the cold!

-1.2 and steady fine dry snow for 20 minutes or so.
Radar showed it here a long time before anything actually started at ground level.

Quite a temperature gradient across the country right now. 13C on the south coast, 0C in Nottingham, and -8C in the Highlands.

Here it is 9C, predicted to rise to 11C by 4am and then drop to 3C by 9am with a daytime max of just 5C!

Very mild here, and windy (from the west). There's a small but intense band of rain just started and behind that temperatures should plummet.

11.7, dew 10.8, the low so far being 6.9.
