I have officially been in heaven this evening, Its still 27c at gone 10.30pm, there is not a breath of wind and i have been watching lightning from the beach lighting up the Indian ocean. Absolute heaven, i could have stayed there all night, as things seem to be developing even more now. Nothing better than watching a distant storm over the ocean, on a hot, still night.

btw on the subject of crazy weather, I see there's been summer snow fall in the Victorian Alps!

Just a guess.

If you can - any chance you get a picture of those storms.

Here is a picture taken from one of the guys on the West Australian weather forum. I love the undulating clouds, not sure which beach this was taken from. Saw hundreds of these strikes out over the ocean last night like this and another day of storms today, very threatening skies at the moment with big spots of rain.

The below pic was taken from Cottesloe just before sunset, as the mid level cloud began to develop over the ocean ahead of the spectacular nightstorms.

In fact April could be quite stormy - it was when I was living there.

I actually live further North and was at the beach at Mindarie, around 40km North of the CBD. We pretty much have suburbs stretching right upto Yanchep now.

You mentioned a suburb called Mindarie - As you said that's one of the new ones. I'll have to PM you a decent letter.

I reckon Perth has added 20 suburbs or more since I was living there - When I went back and paid a visit in 1999 - I hired a car and drove up the Mitchell Freeway in the direction of the north and came across a suburb called Joondalup - That didn't exist when I was living there. I was amazed how much new buidling there was.

Last time we were out in Perth we went up to Broome for a while and then travel back down past Perth to Nannup and stayed with family. After getting up in morning walking outside to find it white with a ground frost (June), the one thing I found unforgettable was when dark arrived, looking up at the Milky Way.

It was stunning, crystal clear skies.

Fantastic photo's btw

This is another fantastic shot from last night, the weather has changed now with the winds becoming South-westerly and more stable air moving in. The dew point is still around 19c though and its extremely humid for the normal Perth climate. Image

Well, the unusual Perth weather is set to continue. A trough is going to sit in the vicinity of the coast, that means around Perth for the next 4 days. This combining with mid level moisture brought down from the tropical Indian Ocean means more thunderstorms and humidity. From tomorrow there is the risk of thunderstorms and the potential is there for some absolute beauties. Hopefully therefore in the coming days i will be able to post more brilliant photo's. Just an absolutely fantastic spell of weather :-)

Another storm yesterday evening with the convergence of a hot Easterly wind and a weak sea breeze around the coast. There was very little rain produced, but a beautiful Arcus cloud formation on the actual convergence line. Unfortunately i don't have any pictures of the formation, but it was spectacular. The next 3 days bring the risk of severe thunderstorms, especially Wednesday which have a Li of around -8, and available CAPE of around 1000+ and very little covective inhibition either. Possibily dangerous storms on Wednesday!

We had some rain yesterday evening here ( Wattle Grove ) enough to make the ground damp.

Looking good for Wednesday, those charts remind me of the March storm a couple of years ago

Here's a link to a picture of the roll cloud from yesterday.

Btw my knowledge of Perth is due to the fact I was very fortunate to live there for a few years in the late 1980s.
