Morning folks,

It's been fairly quiet around here for the past week or so. The big newsmaker of a storm that hit Chicago and the Mid-West never ventured into Ontario and tracked East not North. However, we have picked up one or two surprise snowfalls that weren't from storms but from trough disruption off the Lakes and one of which is occurring here right now with snow falling as i type in Upper Dundas and we have a very good covering on non-paved surfaces currently.

The weather is playing a teasing game, typical for early spring really. The signs are there for stronger much milder weather one day, the next back into the fridge. And this game continues to play out over the next few days with temps slowly rising to 8c by Sunday, probably thawing all if not most of the snow but then forecast again to tumble below 0c by next week as another Artic front blasts in.

I've been keeping an eye Peter on your snow over in Calgary, -10c this morning and still some around. Might not be frequent storm country but it does tend to bring a punch when it comes over there!

Morning folks, this was the scene below that greeted me out the office window about an hour ago!

The swings of spring coninue around here. We saw record breaking temps for Sunday just down the Lakeshore from here in St.Catharine's where the temp reached 17c/63f, it was 15c/59f down at Hamilton Harbour and 11c/52f on-the-mountain at the Airport. The lower temp there due to the, at that time significant snow still lying on the ground.

In a few days we went from that, thru some rain on Monday to Heavy Snow flurries overnight and into this morning! Currently -2c and the snow flurries expected to last thru much of the day.

Monitoring a potentially more significant snowevent that may come our way on Friday night into Saturday. An Alberta Clipper could bring between 5-8cm, not unusual for this track but fairly obselete for the time of the year to see snow from this. Will keep you posted.

Brett Anderson is amongst others including TWN who has issued their long range forecast for Spring across Canada and here it is : http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-blogs/anderson/spring-2013-forecast-for-canada/7941979. General theme is that Western Canada will be cooler and wetter than average and more rain than Vancouver in particular has seen so far this year, while Eastern Canada is warmer but in some spots stormier than average including Southern Ontario where Brett says rising temps will bring an early Severe Thunderstorm threat to the Windsor-Toronto corridor.

This spell of winter could be the last if the lrf is correct. Not long now Graeme to MLB 2013 hits off, i've been trying to see some of the World Baseball comp down in Puerto Rico over the past week....Canada not covering themselves in glory i may add !

I heard that there was snow in Exeter - and I thought they were winding me up but obviously there was snow there the day after I leave - typical.

Well seeing as Peter is hibernating I will update you from Calgary, Alberta!

Yesterday there as very light snow and freezing fog and there was snow all last night into today and it's currently -13c with light snow. We had about 1cm over night so not a great deal.

There was been old snow that has built up over the month but all in all only 1cm of fresh snow. Hope it turns milder for skiing.

Reached a high of -6c today in Calgary before clouding over with light snow giving a dusting of powder. Temp has now dropped back to -9c. I think even the Calgarians are getting fed up with this cold weather here.

It was -12c in Calgary this morning but by the time I got to the bottom of Lake Louise ski Hill it was -18c at around 9:15am. Temperature rose to -3c in the afternoon and there wasn't a cloud in the sky! Now -6c in Calgary and remaining dry for the rest of the week, but with temperatures creeping up ever so slowly to plus 5c.

NOW! - What's this I hear about the snow over in the UK!? Every time I have logged on to this forum over the past 10 days or so the headline is snow, blizzards or heavy snow etc!? Just checked the weather for London and it's -2c there!? - I guess I can adapt to that well. But that's rather cold for the end of March!?

Hello folks, sorry for the lack of activity from me over the past few weeks but that dreaded work has got in the road the again! But, on the plus side i have a couple of days of this week so here's the chance to update on what's happening.

Temps are slowly, very slowly creeping up here in the Golden Horseshoe. Today +3c by the weekend upto +8c possible. It is still very cold though due the biting wind off Lake Ontario gusting over 40kp over the past 24hrs or so. No lying snow any longer though but a wee bit like across the pond in the UK, spring just doesn't want to arrive. (Incredible news reports and pictures by the way from near my old home in Ayrshire both on-land near Largs & Stranraer and on the beautiful Isle of Arran) Didn't think i'd ever see these areas being hit so hard.

Across the border in the U.S. the Severe Weather season is just about to kick-in down south as April arrives. Some big storms over the weekend, one of which interupted the golf down in FL as a Tornado Warning took the players off for the day and a gust of 86mph was recorded at Orlando International.

Finally, ballgame time Graeme!!! John Gibbons talking up the Jays chances this season and by all reports they've had a good spring training run, but news today that they've placed Brett Lawrie on the DL for the start of the campaign mainly as a preventative measure as CP24 report here - http://www.cp24.com/sports/lawrie-to-start-season-on-dl-blue-jays-say-1.1210041.

Marcus - this is why I think I have caught a cold and have headaches. - Very dry here indeed!

It was plus +5c in Calgary today and tomorrow we should reach +10c. Currently -5c!

Apparently this is the first winter in a decade when the temperature in Calgary hasn't dipped below -30c.
Looking ahead to London heathrow for my return: - It's currently -1c and tomorrow there will be a high of +2c?!

Well at 4pm it was +8c in Calgary and felt very warm in the strong sunshine! Looks like it will be dry at 10c for the rest of the week in Calgary - typical it warms up the minute I leave.

I have come back to 2-3c and snow flurries. What a surprise to see snow (albeit light) falling throughout the day in the middle of spring!

Hello folks,

Things looking very quiet on here recently, guess it's this lull period between winter and full summer and to be fair around these parts the weather has been mostly benign for the past week or so. Temps have climbed slightly and have been trying to go higher but got pegged back earlier in the week as another Artic front brought snow flurries across the GTA these more significant the further NW you went thru Southern Ontario with accumulations especially when night fell.

This weekend, it's quite cold to be honest. Currently +4c at 1430local and with the sunshine it shouldn't feel too bad, but not proper spring either! Later in the week and to start next week temps look like rising but with the threat of rain moving in as the GTA becomes somewhat of a battleground between early spring/winter to our North and late spring/almost summer further South in the U.S.

Early days Graeme for the Jays in MLB 2013, hopefully you got the chance to catch some of the action over the first week? 1-2 record now having taken care of the Indians earlier 10-8 for their first win of the year. Opening night was fantastic, a nion sell-out from what i saw, would be great if the team could attract that every home game! Tomorrow night will encourage this hopefully as the Red Sox make their first appearance North of the year.

Finally, here is a pic taken earlier in the week of the GTA and Great Lakes. The snow from the squall activity clearly shown - a fairly wintery scene still -

Glad to see someone was updating things!  Well done tallyho.  Not a whole lot to report here - fairly normal march with one big dump of snow, I will try to dig up the picture I took meaning to post it - next time, honest.

After a warmup it's turned cooler and cloudy here with occasional dustings of snow.  Expecting a bit more of the white stuff with risk of freezing drizzle (pretty uncommon here) before it warms up to single digits next week.

Generally it's brown here - sure do miss the green at this time of year.
