We don't get these much so lets shout about it ...

No heatwave on the 00z this morning.

I can't wait. Its been so long that many have forgotten just how hot it can get in the UK. 

The last six summers have been wonderful. the next seven days look pretty grim. Still don't think it will top 32C though.

Shorts on..Ice in the freezer..barbe ready...New table,chairs and parasol coming tomorrow.Remote control fan at the ready. Vents all open and just waiting for the big it to happen..

I assume that you are gauging this on the definition of a heatwave, or possibly just joking.

Either of the above may be the only reason for this statement, because the outlook continues to be as certain as you can get in this business - very warm or hot, settled, often sunny conditions for many parts of the UK from Friday for at least a week across the NWP.

This is precisely the reason I love the British weather and why I first got interested in it. Until possibly yesterday morning this was still only 95% sure and even then the temperatures and length of this warm spell was still uncertain. Heck, even today, if you didn't know the forecast you would have no idea of what was coming as it's currently cool (ish), cloudy and looks like rain. Brilliant

With this being an early July heatwave the sun's heat is going to be mighty powerful compared with August heatwaves when the sun is losing a lot of punch from mid month. Houses will become like ovens as the internal walls and fabric warms, especially inland with a lack of breeze .

Locally I'm hoping that the light easterly drift will provide a bit of a flow through the house on those hot sultry nights.

But, no, I do like a nice drop of sunshine and a bit of warmth as the next person but it does tend to make it rather loud and rowdy around here what with me being surrounded by pubs and living very close to the beach as everyone from the rest of the county descend down to this little part of the world.
  I think in my case, bike rides out into the countryside may be in order (naturally, with camera in tow) and hope my house (and mother) will still be in one piece when I get back.  But I will appreciate the warmer early mornings to take some early outdoors morning photography as it has been quite cold for that lately. Of course, that's assuming we don't get the sea mist stuff, that is.

Mind you, my memory of the last heatwave was not a pleasant one. I was working in a tomato greenhouse in that July 2006 heatwave, by the afternoon I was pleading to be put out of my misery but thankfully it did get appreciably cooler in the next day.

Although I don't really understand the hype surrounding this upcoming warm spell, it's making it sound like we've not had a decent summer in six years . . .

. . . oh.

A bit of both - although it's also based on the GFS shunting the high pressure further west a little bit, introducing cooler uppers (below 10C) to most of the UK around the 10th. ECM and UKMO continue to look hot.

I can not wait this will be the first time since returning from Thailand I will have considered sitting outside, although I really do not expect it to get that hot here, but the sunshine alone will be nice.

Very much looking forward to it and had waited for 7 years for a proper heatwave and I started recording July data by using my old Max and Min thermometer which read 12C and 24C yesterday.  With the ground already 50% parched despite 1.8mm of rain early yesterday morning would help temperatures to rise higher and parching will increase sharply by next week.

We may even get above 21C/70F 

I'd love what some of the NAGEM model is on.

Somewhere should get to 25c today. And we could hit 25c every day for the next 2 weeks.

What actually constitutes a Heatwave? Does the temp have to exceed a certain figure over a number of days for it to be called a heatwave?

Some of our experts will surely know this??

It's over 32c on two days with the middle night being no less than 18c overnight in London. For the rest of the UK it's a little lower. Strangely there doesn't seem to be a threshold level for Scotland. 21C perhaps?

Mid 20's doesn't constitute a heatwave here in the East Midlands.

Very warm but never overly hot thankfully throughout the upcoming spell of fine weather.

Heatwave thresholds by region/nation (Scotland and NI dont have official thresholds, presumably because they so rarely have heatwaves! )
