I've got hundred of these gritters bashing blindingly against the window but they will go back in hiding in an hour's time and I can then open the windows again.

I know those as June bugs, Ian - either way they are late this year! Although on Googling it looks like they are two different things. The ones we have are more brown, I think this is the critter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_chafer

My wife is terrified of them for some reason and I am regularly called to remove them. They often come down the chimney - I see them circling the roof when I am sitting in the garden.

The other big noisy bugs around at the moment are rose chafers:

Very pretty with the sun on them.

Still 26.2c here. Feels strange going out in the near dark with this level of warmth. 🙂

Still warm here, but without the effect of the sun the temperature outside feels very pleasant. Shame it can't be so comfortable temp wise indoors.......

Just 15C here in Stoke. Temps really tumbled this evening...infact just an hour away in Birmingham it is 6C higher than here. A much cooler night despite what the BBC said.
