Looking at the radar, and this thread; how the hell have we had a dry night with not even a distant flicker of lightning or faintly audible rumble of thunder? Blink It's like being in a parallel universe!

I dare say that this area of the country will score the warmest temperatures today if it stays dry.

Awake since 4am, bloody lightning and thunder [sn_dead]

I've not had any trouble sleeping during the heat, but that was rubbish. Storm lovers would have enjoyed it. It was never overhead, but lots of lightning and occasional rumbles of thunder. Typically tepid affair as British storms usually are, but plenty of lightning none the less.

Woken by thunder at approx 4am which was accompanied by torrential rain

Apparently there was 'constant thunder and lightning' in other parts of Leeds. Definitely a 'LeedsLad123 storm shield' and not a Leeds storm shield.

Best way to describe the 'storm' in Thanet....you know that moment when you're in a hotel room, alone, and all you can here is the banging from the room next door....and you wish it'd either stop, or at least let you watch?....that one!

So for anyone who thinks Kent got pasted last night....some parts didn't!!

The storm, at it's peak at 2.30 am, was that lively that the power winked out for a second while at the same time kept causing the garden solar lights to keep coming back on, so I've had to reset all the digital clocks around the house (alarm clocks, the heater, video, etc). It also had me checking my roof and the inside of it for water damage - and thankfully, it's all bone dry. Lord, my house is built like a castle.
It is going to be a long time before I moan about the South East Kent climate. My only regret was having missed this storm's approach as I was still asleep. it wasn't until rain water and hail blowing through an open window and splashing onto my legs did I wake up and that's when I was seeing next door's plastic garden furniture being blown about in what I'm sure was a gustnado type wind.
By the time it was in full chat, I just couldn't get out with the camera to get to a more interesting photogenic location due to the rain. Besides my poor elderly mother was having a million heart attacks per second as the house literally shock with the explosions of thunder along with the strobe lightning.
My rain gauge is reading 18.6 mm having fallen but I'm sure MUCH more has fallen as it has caused localised flooding around the town.

I think for the first time in years, I can easily class this to have been a proper "violent" storm. Now I can rest easy knowing my thirst for storms has been quenched. Any more we do get from here on is considered to be a bonus, even though I was ready to write it off last night (hence how it took me by surprise) and expecting this evening to offer a better chance.

Best thunderstorm in years - every time it eases off and you think it's over, back it comes again.  Being going for 2 hours now.  Even saw some CG

A beast of a storm here past hour, lots of TL overhead and torrential rain.

Still very dark and thundering

Actually, I can hear quite loud rumblings from what looks like a small thunderstorm trying to move in from the Channel. A shame it's now broad daylight so it's no good getting the camera out for it.

The most intense activity was to the west of here, but plenty of thunder in the past hour or so. Only light rain though.

Pretty sure this news article is the strike I heard earlier today. Was very bright and loud from about 300m away, I have the flash and sound (from inside a building) on camera, I'll try and edit that later this evening to see if it's any good.
