I think lack of reports from the SW of the UK over the last 12 hours or so says it all really. As i indicated yesterday I felt that the main focus of the storms was likely to be more Northern and Eastern areas of the UK as there was not enough of a continental influence to the wind down here to allow them to form in time before having passed over. Instead we were the breeding ground for all you folks points North and East and I see little to change that over the coming days. Nevertheless I got a free lightning show from the storm that did defy the odds round here as it formed to my West and passed to my NW just before dawn depositing 27mm at Hartcliffe and delivering almost continual lightning for a while. My rainfall total was 0.4mm making 2.4mm for the month of July to date. Anyway well done to all those that got their wish and it might not be all for some of you yet.

What a cracking thunderstorm we had this morning, started about 6am and lasted about an hour, frequent lightning and massive cracks of thunder - it actually woke us up!
Absolutely stonking here now. A surprisingly fresh breeze has kicked-in from the SW, the sun is out and the air has been swept clean. No storms but you can't have everything!
Getting really dark again from it seems all directions can hear it in the distance partner in a panic again

just a question of time for me in Chelmsford

Since then the sun has emerged and the wind has become intermittent. For lunch I sat out in the sun during a few minutes of dead calm and I swear I could have cooked eggs on my torso - some of the hottest sunshine I've ever felt in this country.
Needless to say, the hint of freshness has departed again, but despite that, it's not too sweaty. Looking at the wind reports on xcweather, it seems like the central swathe is a region of mixed airflows - the convergence zone between the SW winds in the SW and SE winds in the SE. How very appropriate...!
Since my last report James the breeze has subdued and it's feeling muggy again. Thought we might be on the fresher side of the trough but now not so sure with dps fairly even east to west.
Looks dodgy towards my NE which I presume is what people over in Essex is getting excited about
I got a splitting headache and thats usually a sign of a storm because I dont normall get them apart from when there is a bit of a bash and crash or one too many lagers
Well, that was a bit meh. No thunder or lightning in Aberdeen and it appears the line of showers has pretty much passed through. Is there supposed to be more later on? We can't buy a storm here...

I actually slept through all of last nights thunder and lightning here!
Often happen actually, because I'm really quite hard of hearing.
